Winter, 18th Turn, 11th Pass

Upcoming Flights/Runs:
Red Ingoth

Upcoming Hatchings:

Winter is in full swing as the Northwest reaches the middle stages of the cold month, and Dalibor, taking full advantage of a crackdust filled break in Threadfall, is back at it again. Delving into the Southern ice and snow, they have paired with Grove Weyr to fully explore the lands they only slightly uncovered the previous turn during the Jungle Expedition. This, however, will not be a warm and relaxing waltz through the woods; although was it ever that to begin with?

The days were getting cooler, but still warm enough that the waters of the lake were only somewhat cool. Vilane had every intention of going for a swim in said lake. He was done with chores, done with lessons, done with all things loathed and hated for the day. The time he enjoyed most was the time that was his. He hated being ordered to do menial chores. Hated the repetitious lessons that he could recite in his sleep. How long had he been Standing, and left to Stand while others had Impressed? He was too stubborn to give up. He had nothing else. His father was ashamed, and if he didn't Impress, and aged out...he had no clue what he'd do. Maybe try Standing for a wher. Yet he had always envisioned himself a dragonrider, on the back of a bronze, like his father. Or an iron, since those, two, were kings. Only, time and again, he was overlooked. To add insult to injury--even though he told himself there was something decisively 'off' about the strange dragons in Couineth's last clutch--a little boy and an over-talkative, awkward young man had been chosen over him. Was he not worthy of a bronze or iron? Or were they simply choosing the weak and unsuitable? He knew Z'dyn of Baihujinth to be a respectable and strong man. Should not his dragon's children choose likewise suitable individuals? Not children and annoyances? It was hard for him to stomach, being left to Stand. He would think of any reason for having not been chosen. He hated to think it was something to do with him. Still, Couineth's words haunted him, and he loathed that both the words of her, and her green daughter, stuck. A dragon worthy of him...to not let others control him...he shook the thought free.

He stood and looked out over the lake. There were others further down the shoreline. Dragons bathing. It was hard to be here, at the Weyr, and see all these dragonriders. To want to be one, and yet to not know if you ever would, but having believed in nothing else your whole life, so everything counting on it. What he needed was a distraction. The monotony was getting to him. Really getting to him. He couldn't exactly drink, or sleep with anyone. He hated having gone so long without that last. Even the first, he missed sorely. Candidate rules were foolish. Why, when he was a virile, perfectly healthy man, should he be left to take care of his own needs in that regard? He had been Standing since he was a child. Did they honestly mean to deprive people of that basic thing for the entire time they were candidates? It pissed him off to no end. Back at his other Weyr, he had not held off. He had not been caught, but his father had found out and had given him a lot of grief over it. Not since coming here had Vilane bedded anyone. It was maddening. He wished he might just find a way around it. Yet it was a smaller Weyr, and less chance to merely 'get away with it'. If they removed him from Standing, that would be more unbearable than four more turns of celibacy. But oh, how much he missed doing as he pleased!

Suddenly aware of someone approaching, he narrowed his eyes and turned to see a young woman. She must have been a couple turns younger than him, but she was without a doubt attractive. He'd noticed her in classes--shard it all, why did she have to show up when he was thinking of women? Bad timing. She had Impressed, though. To a green. Whereas he, Vilane, had not. Still, he hardly envied her a green. And greenriders...didn't they have a bit of a reputation? Fiery, many--or was it most? A flicker of something unreadable crossed his face, as he regarded her...

Tamanith was a creature of nature and it showed in the way she bathed. The green's eyes were half-lidded in pleasure as she soaked in the cool waters of the lake and she made no movement except for the occasional stirring of her tail. As far as she was concerned, this was bliss, pure and simple. The only thing that could make her bath better would be a light shower of rain while Rukbat still shone down upon her. Too bad the sky didn't look right for that particular combination; oh well, she was being spoiled enough as it was. Speaking of- 'Harder,' the dragon begged as Ero began to work on a spot near one of her wingjoints. 'Yesss, that's it.' She made a low growling sound, deep in her throat, to show her rider how satisfied she was with her work. Ero bit back a sigh in response as her aching arms reached upwards yet again to get at another hard-to-reach spot. She was almost done cleaning her green, but this last bit was the hardest part. Only a little more to go...a little more...yes! Finished!

The girl drooped against her green's side as soon as she was done in order to give herself a well-deserved break. Shells, if it took this much effort to wash a green, how hard would it be clean a red like Cairenn had Impressed? Talk about a work-out! And as much as Ero would like to be able to pick up a man and throw him with her arms, she didn't think thick muscles suited her figure. Just the idea was enough to make her laugh out loud. 'What's so funny?' Tama's eyes were still half-closed as she asked the question. 'Oh, nothing much, Tama. But if you could stop growing so big, that would be great.' Ero gave her green a gentle pat before pulling away in order to look herself over. She frowned as soon as her eyes met with her soggy attire which was no longer one uniform color, but splattered here and there with droplets. 'Ugh, now I'm the one who needs to clean up!' Admittedly, besides the fact that she was a bit wet and rumpled, there was nothing wrong with her. Still, she wasn't exactly presentable either next to her now shining green. Time for a change of clothes!

Ero began to make her way back to her room though she had to pass the other lake-goers to do so. The weyrling and her dragon were hardly the only ones at the lake considering the time of day and she weaved her way through people and dragons alike without complaint. However, her dark eyes paused on the somewhat familiar form of a young man as she neared him and she had to look at his knots in order to place him: a candidate. Ah, well of course. "Good day," she greeted him with patented Trader charm because, well, he was attractive and they had locked gazes. She didn't intend to strike up a conversation with him though, and her feet automatically quested in a direction away from him. Her priority right now was her clothes and little else.
