News
Winter, 18th Turn, 11th Pass

Upcoming Flights/Runs:
Red Ingoth

Upcoming Hatchings:

Winter is in full swing as the Northwest reaches the middle stages of the cold month, and Dalibor, taking full advantage of a crackdust filled break in Threadfall, is back at it again. Delving into the Southern ice and snow, they have paired with Grove Weyr to fully explore the lands they only slightly uncovered the previous turn during the Jungle Expedition. This, however, will not be a warm and relaxing waltz through the woods; although was it ever that to begin with?

Despite the lake being chilly (and she'd know given that Ruane had thrown her in it) it was pretty. The snow made everything white, and pure, and it almost felt like she was the only one in the world out here. It was early morning, so it was entirely likely. Given the chilly weather, who would be wanting to go for a swim? Not her, no sirree bob. So, instead she was going for a walk. A nice, calming, walk that would hopefully succeed in clearing her head. She wasn't the sort of person who spent oodles of time mulling over things, or second-guessing herself, and yet the situation she'd gotten herself into with Ruane was bothering her immensely. She didn't know how to approach the older girl, not after their last interaction. For now they had both been avoiding each other, or at least that's what she thought was happening. Was it possible that Ruane would just... not want to see her anymore? The thought broke her heart, and made the cold feel all the more colder.

Down the lakeside the girl traveled, unaccompanied by her warmth-loving feline. Instead she had Kirby with her. The pink flit was nestled against her neck, much like Athena often was when with them. She did so love her pets, though sometimes her kitten was a handful. She was always getting into mischief, and at the worst of times. She wouldn't trade the little fluff-ball for the world though. She was all hers, and super warm and snuggly. Fluffy animals were the best, no question about it.

Then she saw them. A girl and her dragonet. Wait... was that a tan? She'd heard so much about Dalibor's tans. They were supposed to be very... eccentric. Oh shards, she'd been dying to meet one of them! Was there any chance that the girl would let her meet hers? She could always try! Why miss a rare opportunity? So, forward the small blond went. Upon coming face to face with Arcaina, she halted. She kept a respectable distance away, recalling Emath's reaction to her. "Hey there! Sorry to bother you guys, but you look like you're having some fun over here! The name's Everane. I was actually at the hatching that you two impressed at--'er... where you bonded! In any case, congrats." She refrained from engaging the tan, though her gaze lingered upon her. She was quite the unique-looking creature. Shit, it would have been so awesome to impress.

It was cold. Not that Toppth knew the difference given she only knew the lake as chilled. But to Arcaina, being knee deep in the water during the winter was just miserable. So she was procrastinating. Just a little. A little mental fortitude was required when approaching a lake in the middle of the coldest part of the Turn. The tan, of course, was unbothered by Hers deliberation. She had one clawed paw dipped into the clear water and was flinging water droplets around with obvious fascination. It was like snow when it fell, but melted! Toppth twisted her neck to peer up at Hers. Where was her smile? Maybe some melted snow would make her happy! The tan dashed a few droplets at Arcaina's face.

"Hey!" The weyrling wiped the water from her cheek. "That is cold."

'It is a whole big puddle of melted snow! See, it falls down, down, down.' Toppth flung some more drops into the sky.

"You know what a lake and water are...you get bathed here regularly."

Toppth hummed, 'But I want to bathe in snowflakes. Even if they must be melted ones.'

Arcaina wondered if this was what having a toddler was like. The tan sometimes made the most bizarre requests and conclusions. She shook her head and chuckled, "Fine, you can have a bath in melted snowflakes." The tan cheered and immediately slumped on the ground, shuffling about in the thin layer of frost built up on the ground. Well then...Arcaina turned, only to find herself face to face with a girl. She recognized her from the hatching but never actually talked to her. "Hi!" She flashed a smile, happy to have a distraction from her great cold water debate. "Thanks. I saw you there, but not in class. Guess you showed up right around the hatching? How are you liking it here? Well, the whole plague thing aside, I mean. That kinda sucked. I got sick and was trapped in the infirmary with everyone else, but I'm better now!"

She scratched the back of her head as she talked. Toppth watched Hers and the stranger with wide-eyed curiosity. Suddenly, she popped up, scrambling this way and that, tangling her way between the two girls to get right into Everane's face. Twinkle, twinkle little girl..you're invited to tea! And she promptly shoved the girl backwards with her paws, as if tipping her into an invisible chair. Arcaina gawked, "Toppth! Why did you do that?"

I was showing her to the table, MyAlice! the tan replied, scuttling around until she was sitting upright on her haunches, Sit, sit! Oh do not be rude.

The tan dragonet was mighty brave, dipping into that cold water. Ever prayed she didn't fall in. Water that cold was very likely to shock her. The tan flung droplets onto Hers, to which Ever slapped her hand over her nose and mouth in an effort to keep from snorting in laughter. It didn't work however, for soon she was laughing. The pairs antics were quite comical, not that she was eavesdropping or anything. She secretly hoped to have a similar relationship with her dragon. It would be lovely to have someone to joke and laugh with all the time. It wasn't that she didn't enjoy finding people to rope into her fun-cause she really did! It was more that, well, never being alone would be nice. Kirby huffed at her, offended by the suggestion that she was not enough. "No, no. You know you are... Don't be like that." Ever frowned at the pink, who was now staring her square in the face. The pink nestled even tighter against Hers, rubbing her wedge-shaped head against Ever's cheek. The small blond chuckled, quietly this time.

Upon her approach, the tanrider turned. Ever was greeted with such enthusiasm that all she could do was... laugh. She offered the other girl a smile and a dramatic wave. "Heya," she retorted. It looks like she had finally found someone as talkative as she was. She listened intently, waiting until the other girl was finished before answering. It was too bad the pair of them hadn't really been candidates together. Of course, now Arcaina had her tan!

Ever took a deep breath, readying herself for a ramble. "I did actually! I got here just as the dragonets were hatching, and the Weyrwoman herself-," she started, abruptly cut off as Toppth darted in front of her. The tans movements were... peculiar. Before she knew what was happening, Toppth was right in her face. Hey there! she greeted cheerily, getting the sense that the tan wouldn't mind being spoken to. If she was wrong, well... another oops.

Ever hardly knew what was happening. She was promptly shoved over by the tan, and so she teetered back, landing flat on her ass in the cold snow. Everything happened in slow motion, and yet she couldn't stop it from happening. "Oomph!" she declared, landing fairly hard on her backside. By the time she was sitting, she peered out across the lake and then at the tan dragonet. Before long she was laughing at the unexpected circumstance she had found herself in. Tea you say? Well, alright then. Then, recalling that she needed to mind her manners, she answered aloud: "Tea sounds lovely."

The tan sat upon her haunches, instructing her rider to do the same. "Oh boy, I don't know about you but I'm excited," Ever said to the tan-weyrling. She offered Arcaina a wink before looking back to her tan, "this'll be good fun." So... was the girl Alice? "Thanks for the invitation Toppth!" The snow was soaking through her pants, but she ignored it in favor of indulging the dragonet. She enjoyed a good game just as much, if not more, than the next person!

Everyone is invited to my parties! Oh, except the Jabberwock. He's not allowed. Green and blue swirled in Toppth's eyes as she studied her party guest. She talked to her like Hers talked to her. How curious. Arcaina knelt on the ground, a little pink cheeked but smiling. The other girl was unharmed and taking the tan's antics in stride. She could only hoped others weren't too put off in the future as the dragonet grew larger and her strangeness more apparent. Toppth scratched at the dirt with her her clawed back feet, her tail thrashing back and forth. It was obvious that she wanted to ask the girl something, but hadn't quite decided how to say it. All of the sudden, she let out a whoop of glee and flung a dash of water over both girls, What can you see in the water but never gets wet? The tan bounced with amusement, before pausing, her reason lost.

Then she was twisting around, rather focused compared to a moment before. She scooped up a clod of mud, then proceeded to splatter it between them like a baker putting the finishing touches on a pie. Toppth paused, as if forgetting what she was doing,'MyAlice, who is our guest? Does she like her tea with talawag or crumbletons?' Her mind voice was an over exaggerated whisper, akin to a harper acting out a scene. Eyes whirling, she nosed at the stranger, She is an odd one. I bet she knows the difference between a wherry and a writing desk.

"Er, why would you say that?"

Because! She doesn't have to speak for me to hear. Isn't that right? Toppth pulled away from the girl, her maw a toothy grin. "What do you mean, love?" Arcaina glanced between the boundary ignoring tan and their party guest. Toppth hummed, head tilted to the side. Anything beyond being a hostess of a marvelous tea party forgotten. The weyrling sighed and shrugged, "Well, I hope you like imaginary tea and sweet bread. We may be here a while. So, what were you saying before about the weyrwoman?"
