Wynmuri smiled as she posted the notice in the Dining Hall. She expected she'd get a pretty good response. Ice howlers had grown in popularity in the past few turns since they were brought back from the North. She was looking forward to finding good owners for Quartz's four pups. Not to mention it would be nice not to have four bouncy puppies living in her quarters anymore. They were only going to get bigger.

Wynmuri returned to her room to check on her charges, leaving the notice for anyone interested to read:

"Icehowler Pups for Adoption!

Quartz and Northdawn's litter are ready for new homes!
Three female, and one male pup are available.
Friendly, healthy, and already leashed and potty trained!
Looking for responsible new owners to adopt and train them.
50 mark adoption feed.
See Wynmuri or contact Wynsk if interested!"

Down in the wherhandler quarters, Wynmuri's room was full of bouncing, bounding balls of fluff. Quartz sat in a corner, yawning as her owner came back. "Thought you were supposed to teach them proper manners?" Wyn accused with a raised eyebrow. Quartz just gave her a long suffering look and went back to her nap. Wyn took in the state of her room, includingly some newly chewed and ripped pillows, and the remains of what she thought may have been a belt once. She rolled her eyes and threw up her hands. "At least soon you'll be someone else's responsibility!" she laughed. They'd grow out of it with proper training, but they certainly were handful right now!

OOC Rules:
-Post here for a chance at a pup! There will be one slot per player. Pups will be rolled randomly.
-Pups will be rolled on November 30th at 10pm EST.
-IC Eligability: Newly bonded Weyrlings and Wherlings still living in the barracks are inelegiable to adopt new puppies at this time.
Wynmuri would also prefer new owners be at least 14 turns, but may accept younger with an adult guardian to voche for them. Puppies are a big responsibility!
(The 50 mark cost is just an IC thing to help cover Wyn's cost of raising and training. There is no OOC cost to try for a pup!)

Count Qivi in!

--

"Oh! Look!" Qivi exclaimed to no one in particular. Elsewhere Dek heaved a sigh. Night and Day were interested, however. The pair of flits inspected the sign them flew back to their person, Day chattering away. "I know! I'm pretty sure I have 50 marks. I bet Rider would help if I don't. Let's go find them and see if we can get one!" And she was off, flits trailing after her.

K’ton could use a little twerp.

(Lmao forgot the rest)

Ironth begged and pleaded with K’ton for a firelizard, but the rider was firm in his decision that firelizards were a terrible idea. Instead the blue rider had a fuzzy idea in mind. Marks clacked in his hand as he made his ay towards the wherhandler quarters. A litter of icehowlers were ready and he had the marks to cover it. Wouldn’t Ironth be surprised if K’ton came home with a fuzzy pup instead of a ditzy firelizard. He couldn’t exactly tell his dragon that he couldn’t stand the little beasts, they were basically mini dragons, but he could smooth the dragon’s sorrows with something a little more to K’ton’s liking.

The girl had heard something to the effect of there being ice howler pups on the way. She was curious, as she often was with just about everything taking place at the Weyr, and so she thought to go. What would be the harm in taking a look at them? They would be a new additions to the Weyr, and therefore were worthy of welcome. She hoped that residents of Dalibor would be the ones adopting them; then she would have the honour of seeing them grow. Like the whers, Asha considered the ice howlers to be protectors of the Weyr. They were large, and certainly capable of putting up a fight (not that she liked to think of any creature existing only to fight). Like most everyone at Dalibor, Asha longed for peace; however, she was not naive. Peace was hard-won, and Dalibor was known for it's turns upon turns of chaos.

Today, she would not think of what had come to pass. Today she would think only of the future, and the fact that she was lucky enough to be a part of Dalibor's. So, she kept her chin up and walked tall. Faros was perched upon her shoulder, as per usual, watching all of the goings on about them. The burgundy spotted a dear friend, bugling so as to alert His. An image of Ly'on popped into her head, which was soon followed by the actual Ly'on. The viridian weyr-rider soon crossed her path, to which she paused and offered a, "hello Ly'on." It was good to see him, as always. The boy was not alone, for his mother, Galya, was at his side. "Hello, it's good to see you both. Are you well?" She awaited a response before gesturing in the direction she was headed. "Faros and I were on our way to greet the new ice howler pups. I hear that they're ready for adoption." There was a faint smile present upon her face, denoting her amusement. Were they busy, or would Galya and her son care to join her?

In truth, she was excited. She had never seen a batch of ice howler pups before. It would be a new experience for her. If their current owner didn't mind, she would've liked to have a chance to play with them before they went to their new homes. She didn't wish to be a bother, especially if there was already a gathering crowd. Ice howlers were difficult to come by in the sense that there weren't many. She was aware of their origins, and the fact that they were considered rare beasts among the Weyrfolk. They were not for everyone, certainly. At present the girl had no ambitions in mind beyond taking a look at them. No longer a child, Asha didn't require a playmate. Faros was her steady companion, working with her much like any partner would. She was quite positive that the ice howler pups would benefit from having a job to do, like the majority of Dalibor's creatures.

To say Xavinyra was excited was an understatement. Who wouldn't be, when there were fluffy puppies available? It wasn't just the idea of a little playmate that intrigued her, however; ice howlers were close enough to canines and having one to train would be beneficial to her craft. If Xav wasn't going to be the sharding best Rider or Handler on Pern, she was going to be the sharding best Beastcrafter there was. Training one of the elusive ice howlers would certainly prove her worth.

She strode purposefully through the Wherhandler quarters, spotting a few others on their way to Wynmuri's quarters. Four pups for how many interested folk? Xav would have to come up with a good reason to get one from the litter, if her craft wasn't enough of one. The Beastcrafter knocked politely on Wynmuri's door, forcing herself to stay calm even as a million thoughts raced through her mind at just how awesome it would be to have an ice howler and tidbits from previous lessons on the basics of training pups and oh Faranth those were the most adorable things she had seen in weeks.

"Hello, Prideleader," Xavinyra greeted, hoping to get into Wyn's good graces as quickly as possible.

The marks jingling in the pouch she toted were a reminder of why she was even at Dalibor in the first place. Mama Elde sent Cess off to live there with a modest sum of money...a grave sign to the girl that the handler did not expect to live to use it. It was time to turn some poor memories into better ones. Of course, that meant dragging her dear aunt along to investigate the thing of interest. Ice howler pups. More than once someone suggested that she get a pet. That a proper companion would do her well. And so she planned on doing just that. So what if her choice in companion animal was a large hunting canine? They were no larger or scarier than whers, and she knew some people trained normal canines with noises and hand signals instead of words, so she had high hopes that these pups could be taught the same way. Though, animals were easier to talk to than people. Maybe if she succeeded in adopting one, it could be her secret keeper. Just because she didn't like speaking, didn't mean there were not things she wished to say. That there was not a weight on her chest that begged to be alleviated through confession.

And if the wherhandler giving out the pups turned her away, then that was fine. It meant it simply wasn't meant to be. She could accept that. At the very least she'd get to see and play with them a little. And puppies were fluffy and soft!

She guided her aunt to the room (at which point she questioned how Cess knew where it was, before recalling the girl's curious nature when it came to all things whers and wherhandlers). Releasing the older woman's hand, she scurried to where others had gathered, and the puppies were romping about. A smile alit across her face and she held questing hands out to stroke fuzzy heads and rumps. Behind her, Cess' aunt sighed, head tilted to the side as she watched the girl with the pups. She was often a somber child, getting into mischief because there was no reason for her to stay in one place. Without friendships or a pet to keep her occupied, she sought out people in her own way, perhaps not even aware of why she kept putting herself in the paths of handlers. A puppy was a big responsibility...yet...it might just be what the girl needed. From what she read in Elde's letter, Cess gravitated towards non-human things, investing trust in them long before people.

She would vouch for the girl.

That serious look on Cessellia's face told the woman that this wasn't an idle interest.

Icehowler pups? Those were supposed to be good hunting dogs. Caliska had to admit, she'd been wanting one for a while. She had dug around in her things for a while after spying the note, eventually collecting the marks for the adoption fee. She'd been saving for one since she'd first heard of the strange breed, a number of turns before even getting to Dalibor, but this was the first real chance she'd had to get one for herself.

And, of course, this was one of the days she'd decided to spend with Kenai, once their daily lesson was done. So he came with her through the Handlers quarters, sniffing at something that caught his interest every so often but never straying far from his human. As she walked, she wondered if it was possible for her to get the male pup, instead of one of the three females. It would keep her from having to worry about pups herself once it grew up... Unless she kept the two of them separate during the breeding seasons, of course. And they probably would be, too, if she kept them both in the kennels like she was doing with Kenai now. Of course, she'd have to keep the pup with her until it was at least a turn old, probably longer...

These thoughts and more rolled around in her head while she walked, pausing near the door. Oh Faranth, those things are fluffy... and so cute... She hadn't remembered Kenai, with his wiry top coat, being quite that fluffy. To be fair, these pups were in much better condition than he had been when she'd rescued him. As she leaned back against the wall, she gave Kenai a hand signal and he sat next to her, looking around at the people that had already gathered and were continuing to do so. She could tell from the chewed up things in the room that there was a lot of training that still needed to be done with these pups, especially if she wanted to turn one into a hunter. She'd have to make sure to get some bones from the kitchens or something if she was lucky enough to get one of them, if only to keep it from chewing on not only her belongings but her roommate's as well.

@Ruin, @Rii, @Rowana

Savanna had been waiting for quite some time now to try and get an icehowler pup of her own. A'ndel had had one for a long time, now, and she, too, had decided she'd like to have one. She didn't want to ask her father for one. She wasn't ready to do something like that...despite what had happened when she and her brother had been ill, she wasn't sure if her father had simply behaved the way he had because he was delirious, or how sincere he'd been. All that mattered, really, was that Aren had been comforted having him there. She had been a lot more coherent and 'herself' than the viridianweyrling had been. She had enough wits about her to realize that what was going on might have not been happening if Sebol wasn't so ill himself. Because she wanted to believe that this was not the case, and because she was too worked up about the fact it might not be--and a little because she could not so quickly forgive his abandonment and what it had wrought on her and her brother--she had done as she was so good at doing: avoided him.

Still, when Quartz was pronounced pregnant, and she knew the 'howler pups would be adopted out soon, she had realized she would have a hard time at getting one--even with the marks that would likely be asked--by herself. At ten turns of age, she was young to have an icehowler. She'd grown up with one, and Aren had one far earlier...yet she was a smart enough girl to know that having an adult there to state that yes, she was capable of raising one and had the experience, would help. So, she had caved and decided to seek out her father and/or G'dan. She also sought out Aren, because he had one and Arceus having been with her most of her life would be a good example of the fact she knew what they were about. So it was with _____ in tow, she made her way to where Wynmuri was with Quartz and the pups, after hearing they were ready to go today.

She realized that she wouldn't be the only one who wanted one of the pups, so while she was hopeful, she wasn't expecting to get one simply because she was there. In fact, this suspicion was solidified when she entered to find she was hardly the first. There were even a couple of other kids there--younger than her, even--who looked like they wanted to try for one. She tried to keep from frowning, or sighing audibly. Instead, she walked with ______ to where Wyn was, and greeted her, trying not to look hopeful when she knew she might walk away with nothing today.

"Hello, Wyn," she greeted the woman, and then, "I got ______ to come along with me, and was hoping that I might adopt one of the pups--if there's a chance one's still left." She felt her heart speeding up a little. She didn't like to be present in groups of people, much. She'd left Smee and No back in her room. They'd protested, but she didn't want them making mischief, and spoiling her chances a bit, potentially. They were well behaved, but they'd be curious about the pups, for certain. Plus, maybe a little jealous."I brought _____ with me, too. I grew up with Aren's pup, Arceus, and I know my way around 'howlers. I know to train them and raise them right, and Arceus is pretty well known around here." She wanted to at least present her case here--even if Wyn probably knew it all already. Everyone knew her and Aren, pretty much--and their da', Sebol. Wyn would already know Arceus, too. Good thing he was a good example of what a well tempered, trained icehowler ought to be...maybe, just maybe, that would help.

With greetings complete, Xavinyra stepped into the Handler's room, looking the pups over with a semi-trained eye. She hadn't worked with canines much, and certainly not with ice howlers, but she knew the basics of training. It would definitely be easier than training Pounce, independent as the feline was. The candidate knelled down, reaching her hand out to a puppy at random. They may appear playful and carefree, but any animal was best approached cautiously if they didn't already know you. Last thing Xav wanted was to spook one of the pups and get a nip or worse.

"You're a cute thing, aren't you? I'll bet you'll grow up nice and strong," she said quietly to the pup, reaching out to scratch it behind the ears if it would accept her. "We'd make a great team, you and I. We'd guard as well as a wher and hunt down the biggest beasties out there, eh?"

Wynmuri smiled and welcomed everyone who came to her door. It was a good turn out. She was almost a little sorry she did not have enough puppies for everyone. Nevertheless, she'd do her best to select the right people for the right pups. There was always the next litter, assuming Quartz wanted one. The big mother was watching each new comer intently as they came to see her offspring. She regarded them all with friendly greetings and offered the occasional tired woof. So long as no one made a move to harm any of the puppies, she was content to rest in the corner and watch their antics.

Wyn greeted Qivi and K'ton in turn with smiles and handshakes, inviting them both to mingle and get to know the pups. Asha got a bit of a raised eyebrow for her age, but a glance at Galya for assurance, and Wyn shrugged and smiled at her too. So long as they could promise to take care of the pups, how could she say no?

"Just Wyn, please," she chuckled to Xavinyra. She waved the candidate forward, pleased to see how she handled herself. Caliska was likewise waved forward with a warm smile. She also looked like someone who could handle an active pup.

Wyn watched Cessellia with an amused quick of her mouth before glancing at her aunt for confirmation. She shrugged and nodded that it was fine. The girl was certainly excited, that was certain. She then leaned down so she could listen to Savanna at eye level and nodded to her as well. She was well spoken for one so young and Wyn knew her family were a responsible bunch. "Of course," she agreed with a smile. "Why don't you get to know them a bit first?"

Wynmuri gave everyone time to play with the pups and get to know them a little. They all seemed like excellent owners and she truly wished she had enough pups for all of them. Sadly it was not the case, so she would have to choose who would get to adopt them. Pity they weren't fire lizards or pillies who could pick on their own, nor did Quartz look like she would be any help. Sighing, Wyn watched a bit longer, eventually deciding to give the pups to the person they seemed to bond with the most.

"Well, Qivi, looks like she's claimed you," she told the rider. The small, lithe female pup had intwinned herself around his legs, it was really quite adorable. She had clearly made her own choice.

She is also very intelligent, able to distinguish many smells and shapes and even solve basic problems on her own. She will be a quick learner who can pick up a variety of tricks.

The next pup was a little harder to narrow down, but she constantly returned to Xavinrya with toys and gave her cute, wet kisses. Wyn figured that decided it. "Good luck, Xavinyra. She's a handful!"

She especially loves to play outside and see new and fun places. While sometimes easily distracted, she will nevertheless be a good learner with a patient teacher.

The third female wasn't as outgoing as the other two, but hung close to Savanna like a protective cloud. Maybe something in the girl had woken up the pup's motherly instincts, it was hard to say. Wyn smiled at her. "She's yours, as long as you promise to take good care of her."

This loving girl is motherly and kind in her manner. While friendly to all, she will quickly attach herself to her owner above others, showering them with love and cuddles. She is especially fond of pats and hugs and prefers curling up in comfort to romping around. Don’t take her sweetness as a sign of softness however, as she will be fiercely protective of her owner and those she is close to. She will train easily with her owner, but will rarely listen to strangers.

The last was the only male and the most shy of the litter. He spent quite a while in the background, cautiously checking everyone out one at a time. Yet, he had curled up with Asha almost since she arrived, content to let her pet him and offer her his neck to hug. She also seemed a bit young, but it looked pretty decided so Wyn shrugged. "I know better than to break up friends. Look after him well."

He will be easy to train, but may occasionally test his owner to be sure they are truly paying attention.

Once all the pups had been adopted, Wyn smiled to everyone. "Thank you all for coming! Quartz and I are very proud and I trust you'll take good care of her pups. If you have any questions on how to raise or train them, please feel free to ask!"

@Rowana

Savvy wasn't quite sure how the adoption of icehowler puppies worked when there was a litter of them, and more people than puppies. She didn't quite know what would decide who walked away with a pup, and who didn't. Still, she wasn't the only hopeful, and while she didn't want to deprive anyone here of a pup themselves, she wanted one just as badly as any of them.
She sat down on the ground, watching them. There was a black male, just like her brother's Arceus. He was cute, but perhaps because she had grown up with a black male icehowler,
and had really hoped she might get a female for herself, her gaze didn't linger on him long. That was perhaps for the best, since he had chosen to curl up with a weyrbrat she recognized but didn't know well. Instead, she focused on the females. Her eyes found themselves looking at one in particular.

The polar opposite of Arceus was a white female with faint reddish-brown markings, so red-brown that they looked to her almost crimson. They were pretty, the way they seemed to pain themselves on the pup's fur. She was looking across at it, and then suddenly it was headed straight for her, and sat right beside her, looking at her. She saw that the other two females had decided to occupy themselves with other people, but she didn't mind that in the least. This one was the one she'd been looking at, besides. She glanced around, suddenly feeling a bit nervous, and the pup nosed her face, giving her a few friendly licks. She felt a longing, and the nerves were merely there because her heart was instantly tugged by the creature. How she wanted to be allowed to adopt this one! She gave the soft pup a hug-she was so, so soft! It seemed her mama had done a good job raising her, and Wyn of weaning them on good meat and keeping them cared for. Likely, this one would need some brushing. Its coat wasn't a bit longer than she had seen on some of the 'howlers.

The pup responded by nuzzling into her, and she couldn't help but smile. She pet the pup, her whole attention on it, not even noticing when Wyn came near. She had been grateful that she was allowed a chance, but the words that came out of the woman's mouth made her eyes go big. That...was it? She could really and truly have the icehowler pup? She could hardly believe it, and hugged her new pup again, feeling herself tearing up. She had an icehowler of her very own, at long last! She wiped away a tear that threatened to break free, unable to help but beam up at Wyn while nodding emphatically.

"I promise! I'll name her Amaterasu--Ammy." She'd thought of the name while sitting there with the pup. For some reason, it had come into her head so easily, though it wasn't a super simple one. Partially, it was because 'Arceus' also started with an 'A'. The other part was that it just felt right. She couldn't wait for Arceus and A'ndel to meet her! She knew Smee and No would be all right--they'd been around Arceus a ton, too. Ammy made no attempts to move from the girl's side, even as she stood up, hardly able to contain her emotions, and abruptly hugged Wynmuri tightly. "Thank you so, so much. Not given to doing such things to people she hardly knew, she still felt she owed the handler this, and wanted to thank her as best she could. Icehowlers were not inexpensive, and the adoption fee was certainly not near what Wyn could have asked. She still wasn't sure exactly how she felt about the fact she had not been the one to front this fee...things were unsteady with her father, after all...but maybe he wanted to really make things right? Well, that was for later. She stepped back and wiped her eyes, putting a hand on her new pup's neck. She knew how to look after him, so didn't need to ask, at least.

They were already potty trained and leash trained, too! Wyn had done very well with them, and saved her a difficult part of the training process. Potty training wasn't really fun, but she would be sure to take Amaterasu out enough so that she would never have an accident and a set-back in that training.

"Oh, look at them!" Qivi practically melted, sliding to her knees into the puppy heap. Swarmed by fluff, she squealed in delight while Day and Night circled above, with Night inevitably settling somewhere high and Day dropping down to curl up on her neck. "You're all so fluffy! Look at you!" She bowled a light brown girl over with her hand and ruffled her belly, earning a slobbery nibble in response.

Mock growling at the pup, Qivi looked up with wide eyes when she was spoken up, absolutely lighting up when Wyn gave her the okay to take the girl she'd been playing with. As the pup wound her way through Qivi's legs, the petite woman bent to scoop her up. Even as a pup, she was almost too big for the tiny blackrider to carry. "She's perfect! Thank you!" Planting a kiss on top of the pup's head, Qivi squeezed her. "I need to tell Rider! West Wind, I think. To go with North." She nodded. "Westy for short." Another kiss planted on the howler's head and Qivi set her back down. "You're already huge! I'll be able to ride you!" An exaggeration, but probably not far from the truth, considering her size.
