Dalibor Weyr < High Reaches WeyrRank:
Weyrling / Sr. Apprentice Smith [Gemcrafting]Personality:
Aur, as she's often called, is a shining example of not letting a pretty face fool you. Intelligent, ferocious, and ultimately the sort of young woman who takes no shards from anyone, her personality has been honed by what feels like ages - certainly turns - of hard work.
She has no problems telling it like it is, and won't hesitate to tell someone they're being a whiner, or lazy, or anything else; while she's relatively soft-spoken, that's just about the only soft thing about her. She has no respect for people who aren't willing to pull their own weight around a Weyr, and she's the first in line to roll up her sleeves, pull her hair back, and get down in the dirt to get a job done. Some of her best friends are Drudges and Weyrfolk; she has little patience, usually, for other Candidates. It's not because of what they are - after all, she's one herself - but because most of them are younger than her. She has no desire nor patience for children, which is in part why, though heterosexual, she has never slept with anyone. In her mind, nobody's warranted enough attraction for that to happen, and she has better things to do than lay up in someone's bed all day, let alone the risks of catching a case of the children, what with not being able to between without bothering a Rider. After all, the Weyr is still running, and she still has a job to do; becoming a Candidate was actually a blessing in disguise, because now she doesn't have to come up with excuses as to why she can't see someone after the day's work is done. [Please do not confuse her with being Asexual
- she is certainly not
, she simply will not just go to bed with anyone that bats their eyes at her and thinks themself some sort of proper suitor; potential bedmates will require work to sway her fancy on that end, but when her favor is earned, they will be the only ones to attend her during Flightlust, or otherwise. She is interested only in other men, not women, and will potentially humor a Poly relationship with other males.]
A jewelcrafter/gem specializing Smith, Aur's focus is the cut and setting of precious and semi-precious stones; it's her main love, and she's something of a magpie when it comes to anything shiny. That being said, she isn't fond of wearing an obscene amount of jewelry, as most of her pieces made are sold at Gathers to acquire new ore for prospecting. She's very territorial of her tools and her work (for obvious reasons, as they're very expensive).
Otherwise, she can be relatively kind, once people make the effort to get past the rough and snappy exterior. Aur has been hurt many times before when it comes to friendships, and a couple of 'relationships' (if one can even call them that), so she doesn't trust easily. People have to earn their way into her life, and it's a hard row to hoe, when she makes every effort not to let them in. In her mind, everyone at a Weyr serves a purpose, and hers - until the opportunity arises that she might Impress - is to work as a Smith and assist the Weyr as a Candidate doing chores and running/bagging Firestone during the Fall. The only real exception to her demeanor, is if someone's in need of help and she's around to assist. She doesn't hesitate to extend a hand if necessary, but in the same vein, those she helps out shouldn't expect an automatic designation of friends. That all being said, she can put on a nice face quite well for the sake of those she has to associate with on behalf of her craft; business-like first and foremost, when she's at a Gather, it's not a time for fun for her, it's a time to make Marks and further those sets of skills.
She has no real interest in pets, and usually sells every Firelizard (or otherwise) egg she comes across; in her mind, they take far too much time to look after, time she could be spending working either on chores or her craft. She doesn't really handle them well as far as them being around and annoying her, but the quiet ones don't bother her too terribly much.
Aur tries very hard to be as sociable as possible, without forming any sort of attachments or 'picking up strays'. Her craft, after all, has a considerable hinge on being approachable, and while she's outwardly friendly to just about anyone she meets, there's a definitive sense of 'don't waste my time, please' that comes across quite apparent to most people who are capable of picking up on it (those who aren't socially awkward as far as reading cues in tone and body language). She doesn't like to be idle, and if she's talking to anyone at all, it's while she's multitasking and doing something else.
It's very rare for her to be idle. She likes mental challenges, and even when sitting somewhere, she likes to be engaged in something to keep her mind busy; preferably not conversation, but she doesn't complain if people want to talk. She's prone to doodling designs for new pieces, and is a somewhat established artist where that sort of design-work is concerned. She tends to sit with a small work-kit with metal wires, twisting out small rings and pendants when she knows she's going to be there for a while (like when she's eating, or when she has 'free time' outside chores and lessons).Appearance:
The first thing a lot of people tend to notice, is Aurora's hair. A shock of white, it's statement-making in appearance alone, and people are sometimes thrown by the fact there isn't an elderly woman attached to it when she turns around. Her skin is paler than most of those from the Western Continent, given High Reaches' colder climate and less-direct sunlight.
She stands 5'5" tall, about average for a Pernese woman, with long legs and long, agile fingers deft enough for the small work required in her craft. Aur is always as clean as she can possibly get herself, beyond the times - of course - when she's working on chores or digging around in ore brought in from the mines. Her nails are edged, filed, and well-kept, and while some of her clothing is pricey and tailored well, most of her attire is more for function than form; she's not opposed to wearing patched pants and men's shirts, when she knows she's going to be down in the proverbial trenches, so to speak. She usually only breaks out the nicer clothing for Gathers, Feasts, and the like.
Her eyes are blue-gray, and set over a small nose and full lips. Her cheekbones are high, and she's been called conventionally attractive by more than a share of both men and women (though she doesn't go that way with the latter) in the past.
She tends towards only a minor amount of jewelry; particularly, a gold chain and pendant with a diamond gifted to her by her father a small amount of time ago, prior to her transfer to Dalibor. She wears rings on occasion, but never more than two at a time, and usually always on the same hand.Family:[All High Reaches Hold/Weyr]

Aurora is the child of Flightlust; her parents were not espoused when she was conceived, but they did marry later on after she and her twin brother Kuro were born. The first of two sets of twins, both she and her brother have white hair, while Aukaia and Aeori are dark-haired; her father, Ar'o, was born with white hair, but it turned blonde as he aged. Whether this will be the case with Aurora, nobody can really say, but chances are it's going to stay that way for life.
Her childhood was relatively normal. Born 2 turns before the beginning of the Pass, she doesn't remember much of her first sight of her first Fall, only that there was a significant amount of fear within the Weyr proper. Of course, Riders died during the initial start of said Pass, but High Reaches continued life as it always had. New clutches were laid, new Riders and Handlers were forged, and the world continued to turn and hurtle through space as it had for eons before humans ever arrived upon it.
Aurora showed interest in her mother's craft by age 7, though she spent a large part of her childhood hanging around her parents as a whole. Her father took both herself and Kuro to the mines when he picked up ore, simply because both children liked to explore with their father, and because Aurora had such a piqued interest in where the shiny things her mother worked with, actually came from.
She wasn't prepared for the sight of Holdless and Exiles being confined to it, and in her discussions with one, she learned just how mistreated many of them were. How they were marked men, some without being actually marked, and it saddened her immensely. Of course, she had no way of getting back to speak to them without the assistance of a Rider, and thus, most of them weren't inclined to taking a very small, innocent little girl to speak to what amounted to criminals.
It's something that's bothered her since the day it happened, but ultimately the uselessness in concerning herself about it until she actually becomes a Rider and can do anything otherwise, forced her to dismiss it.
She officially apprenticed under Journeyman Igard at age 10, and he taught her alongside the things she'd picked up - and continued to pick up - from her parents. Though she had the right to Stand as the daughter of a Rider, Aurora seemed to have no interest in doing so until she was picked out by her father's own Blue at age 17. She stood, without incident or Impression, two different times for the Junior Weyrwoman's Copper in Spring of 15 and Orange Iruth's in Autumn of the same turn.
Across the span of her short life, Aurora has encountered her fair share of those who wanted to call her a friend, and yet, couldn't seem to get close enough to her; she encountered a strapping young man at High Reaches named U'lo, of Bronze Yvirith, who was formerly a Candidate while she was working on her craft. He'd just graduated in Summer 14, and Aurora was not yet Searched proper, when the pair of them ended up talking in the Dining Hall. She found him intriguing, and they ended up in his weyr, though ultimately he wanted more than she did. When Aurora stopped him before clothing came off, he became cross with her, and she ended up practically swearing off relationships of any sort at that point. It wasn't hard for her to become a Candidate, at that point, and having the premise of banned sexual contact and alcohol consumption was welcomed.
Dalibor was a well-known Weyr; Aurora had heard many gossips and Harpers relaying tales of what had gone on at the ill-fated place. The Impression of not one, but two of its Holders to dragons, then the subsequent assassination of the Lord at the hands of the former Weyrwoman, who was then dragonless because of murder, herself. The new mutant colors, the Palefolk, the Wastewanderers. It all sounded quite exciting, and after the creation of the new Hold(s) and Weyr, and the mass-exodus in transfers out to staff it, the call went out for a supplement of Candidates and Weyrfolk, Riders and Handlers, to refresh the proverbial ranks at the no-longer-newest-Weyr.
Aurora hopes that perhaps she can continue her training, obtain her Journeyman's knots, and maybe find a bonded here at Dalibor; with a proxy to a Mining Hold, the earliest of her memories isn't far from her mind, and she hopes that soon she might be able to push for better living conditions in the Mines themselves. Not only for those obligated to them, but for the Miners and willing tradesmen, themselves.Dragon Name:
>1 Turn (Hatchling) - [Autumn, 18th Turn, 11th Pass - Copper Laanasuth x Blue Alwanath]Dragon Color:Burgundy

29.5 feet @ AdulthoodDragon Personality:
Territorial and competitive, Nalith can be a little obsessive about keeping what’s his. Don’t land on his weyr ledge without asking first, don’t take something of his without asking, because he’s not going to be a happy camper if you do, and he’ll make sure that you know exactly where you went wrong. He’s a sore loser and doesn’t take kindly to someone outshining him in what he does, especially if they’re actively trying to beat him (or he’s actively trying to beat them). Mostly, this is because he secretly worries that if he’s not the best, he’ll lose what’s his to the better dragon… or wher… or human.
Nalith has a tendency to be aggressive, but usually only to other males. He doesn’t like being the proverbial little dog and may try to appear bigger and more dangerous than he is if he feels threatened. But that’s mostly just posturing. It makes him feel more secure, so, why stop him, really. The only thing to keep an eye on is if he does face-off with another male, regardless of species, he might go beyond just posturing and verbal aggression. He will duke it out if another male infringes on what he sees as his territory.
Beneath his aggression and his territorial nature, Nalith is rather affectionate of his rider, his friends, and any female who chooses his company over that of others. He almost dotes on them, making sure no one discomforts them or harrasses them in any way. Woe betide the one who forces their attentions on someone under his protection, especially if the protected party indicates that they want whoever it is to stop or go away. He will make them listen, if he must.Dragon Appearance:
Nalith's body is serpentine - he's long and lean, and from head to tail has the appearance of being the same size. In fact, his body is broader than the rest of him, you just have to catch him at the right angle to notice. He has long snakey limbs, and pronounced spines on his head. He is almost uniformly dark red. His muzzle, over his eyes, and down his throat have a darker red patch which isn't found anywhere else on his body.Dragon History:
[QUOTE=Rii,May 7 2018, 08:47 PM]The spotted grey and white egg had barely been trembling all this time, but there was still activity. It was moving. Bit by bit, the shell chipped away, until a small, pale blue-green head peeked out. Then, the hole was widened until the rest of the dragonet's delicately-built body could wriggle its way out. She looked around her. Oh... oh dear. It really wasn't happy here, was it?
The dark purplish-blue dragonet nuzzled her. There, there. It was alright. Look, they were here to help. It would be fine. And see, another one of their siblings was joining them, as a small grey egg on the other side of the clutch split open to release another black. The cyan seemed to take heart from this, picking her way forward only to pause nervously at the red still prowling amidst the candidates. Um... eep?
The burgundy puffed up more at the shove from the virdian, giving him another swat back and taking whatever the viridian retaliated with in turn. He would not be pushed around by some eggwet-behind-the-wings pup! Besides. He folded in his wings. He had better things to do. Turning away, he thwapped the viridian one more time with his tailtips before walking away, drawing even with the cyan. There was a simple solution to her fear. He would accompany her.
They walked together through the candidates, the cyan quailing. None of these were right! Oh-h-h, what now?
The burgundy indicated upwards. Into the stands. He walked with her most of the way there, then turned back. He'd waited. He'd taken care of his little sisters, he'd defended his territory, but there was one thing left to do. Retracing his steps, he nudged Aurora firmly. I had my duty to her, you know, or I never would have left you so long, Aurora. But you're mine, now. And until the day we die, I, Nalith, am yours.
Transfer to High Reaches Weyr. Do not include in ANY sub-site-plots, no drama, nothing. Peaceful transfer off-cam, just like all of mine with this option.
