Autumn, 18th Turn, 11th Pass

Upcoming Flights/Runs:

Upcoming Hatchings:
Copper Laanasuth
Copper Zelsk

With two clutches hardening on the Hatching Sands the big question seemed to be: which will hatch first?

The answer came in short order with Copper Zelsk's clutch breaking shell moments before Copper Laanasuth's. With so many eggs surely the dual hatching offers hope to the numerous Candidates who fill Dalibor's ranks. Only time will show who will come away with a lifemate of their very own...

... and who will forfeit their life in hopes of Impression.

It was so strange, having a night to himself. After two classes, then that being relieved down to one class, and finally graduation..to have a night where he didn't have to teach Wherlings, or do a patrol, or do reports and paperwork, or overall have more on his plate than he needed to have, it was so strange he couldn't get used to it.

Sleep had been a rare luxury in the last four turns. The mainstay of his time for the last sevenday after the graduation of his last Class, had been spent curled up in his furs. He got up when he wanted to, usually around middle-evening, and for the most part was seen only sparingly. He ventured down to the Lower Caverns forgeroom, finding ore to sort, tumbling precious stones therein. Delivered them to the Smiths, who cut them into things and sold them for Marks for the Weyr's coffers and supply rooms.

There had been murmurs of him becoming involved with Jyderin of Black Jysk - Ijo had spent a handful of evenings with the Master Tanner, simply chatting and being something of a friend to the older man. It was difficult for him, Ijo knew. The Weyrleader was his son, and Z'dyn had a well-known apprehension to Whers in general. It bothered Jyderin more than he showed, Ijo discovered, to have his only remaining child so distant.

They'd shared some wine, talked for candlemarks, and simply taken some platonic walks along the shoreline of the lake - Ijo was so apprehensive about anything beyond that, and it had been so long since he'd done anything at all to that effect, that it was almost strange to be sharing a room in any measure with someone who wasn't a Wherling, and wasn't under his tutelage. Naturally, he had no interest in the Master Tanner, but Weyrfolk did nothing so well as they rumored and gossiped.

He let them. It hardly bothered him at all, and Isk didn't seem to mind, either. In some measure it might have been fun, hearing how the stories had changed across the days, but eventually the novelty had worn off, they saw no physical contact between the pair that may have tattled into something beyond friends, and the whispers died out soon enough.

Isk think Ijo worry too much, what people think.
You know that's not true.
Say not true, but think lots. Am lonely. Not feel right, all here, since Bosk's leave. Even then, not like Bosk's and Roiath's. You like wild looking at Weyr. Outside, look in. Isk start looking for Ijo, this rate.
I don't need an other half. I have you, I have my Wherling classes. That's all I need, Isk, but I thank you nevertheless for the effort.
Think Ijo weird, some say, Isk chase, Ijo lock self in room. Think still upset over Izanesk's.
It does tend to unsettle one when they sleep with someone who then tells them they only fancy women, Isk.
Think Ijo change mind, if care enough. Just find someone like Ijo for Ijo, not want change something else. Isk get old. Need find someone treat Ijo right, something happen to Isk.
Nothing will happen to you, that won't happen to me. We go together, remember? You kept your sister from killing me a while ago, now stop that talk. Neither of us are going to die, we'll live to be a thousand turns. Two crotchety old men shaking our canes, yelling at wherlings to oil their straps and check their whers until we're twice that age, mm?

Isk chortled, sliding his side up against his man's arm and shoulder as the behemoth of a Brown plodded along contentedly beside the one he'd bonded to,sixteen turns ago. They were a relatively quiet pair; Isk's sense of humor amused Ijo immensely, and balanced out the former Healer's occasionally too-serious measure of mindset. They were a well-matched pair, and more than once, Ijo was grateful to have him, even after all they'd been through.

Isk not say you go out, get new person right now. But not close head and heart to, Isk want. Think need someone. Isk best, Isk always best, but sometime, Ijo need someone not-wher, spend time with. Become wher like Isk, always talk to.
I can think of no better person to be.

They continued along the shoreline of the lake, intending to do a couple of laps before going in for Klah and sweetrolls; Ijo had taken to sitting by the hearth in the Dining Hall, leaned up against Isk until either he lost interest in people-watching, or dozed off and Isk carted him to bed.

Pavir hurled the rock into the lake, disturbing the quiet and sending ripples outward. Pavisk plodded into the shallows, slurping out water loudly in a move that destroyed any semblance of peace the bluehandler might have wanted. It wasn't the wher's fault, his jaws too massive to do anything quietly, it seemed. He was considered, on the best of days, deformed by most. But he was beautiful to Pavir.

The bright blue wher's lower jaw was too big, jutting out below the upper with tusks that shot out of either side. As a result, he drooled and his tongue frequently poked out of his mouth. But that wasn't the end of it. A slightly smooshed face led to a perpetual heavy breathing noise that Pavir now couldn't sleep without. His back legs were considerably shorter than the front, making him even more lopsided, and his front claws were so large they forced his paws sideways.

Pavisk was a creature of beauty and grace.

Someone come. Pavisk informed Pavir, causing his handler to pause in his next throw and turn in the direction of the wher's attentions.

Isk's and Isk. Pavisk waddled out of the water, bounding towards the two, wheezing as he did so. Stealthy in the night.

Pavisk's here. You need? He wasn't used to anyone approaching his handler for any reason other than work, which suited them both just fine. Pavir followed after his blue, closing the distance and nodding to Ijo politely. "Good night for a walk," he mused, feeling like some sort of conversation was required. Otherwise it was justr the two of them staring at one another while their whers upheld the conversation.

Which might yet happen anyway.

Isk out for walk with Isk's. See Pavisk have same plan. Nice, see many wher out, about. Is very strange, not have class talk to, not have littles look after. Even when Zelsk babies hatch, not Isk's class. Seem strange, many night have two.

Ijo merely offered a small wave to the other much taller man. Pavir was huge compared to Ijo, though they appeared about the same rough build. Still, it was strange to actually encounter someone insofar as conversation went. He was so used to being sheltered in the Lower Caverns, checking wherling barracks, checking wherlings, straps, oil buckets, and falling asleep on his desk.

He'd tried his best to give himself something to do as far as his Craftswork, but even rocks could lose their intrigue at some point. The walk around the Lake had been as much to stretch his legs as it had been to have a conversation with his most-trusted wisdom-offerer. Isk was old, older than most, and he tended to relay a degree of honesty to a conversation that often went unheard by others.

All the intellect people thought he had, he liked to joke, was really Isk with better words.

"It is," Ijo offered, not really sure what else he was supposed to say. Personal interactions beyond Wherling classes were kind of awkward and unknown territory for him - after all, the only encounter that resulted in any sort of personal injection into sexual territory in the last decade's worth of turns, had been with an Orangehandler during Runlust, which had been so awkward the night after he hadn't bothered to attempt anything close to a one night stand again.

Some part of him was still bitter that apparently he was so bad at any kind of lovemaking, his supposed lover had stuck to women and the encounter with the Wherlingmaster had been more shameful than proud accomplishment.

Izanesk's like you just fine. Just like woman more. Ijo have wrong parts.
Story of my sharding life, isn't it Isk.
No, just too scare find person with parts you like, is all.

Ijo snorted, and rolled his eyes with a shake of his head.

"What brings the pair of you out? Same idea?"
