Spring, 18th Turn, 11th Pass

Upcoming Flights:
Red Cyanide

Upcoming Hatchings:
Amber Era

Western Hold welcomes new blood in the form of a young couple, Lord Holder Basasius and Lady Holder Baria. A grand Gather is being hosted by Western Hold to welcome their new Lord and Lady.

While the new Lords settle into Western there has been talk and speculation about the western continent's other Hold. It has been two turns since his wife's passing in the south, when will Lord Callum decide to take up a new wife?

Spring has woken an abundance of plant life across Pern with intermittent spring showers helping to sate the growth's never ending thirst. With the end of snow and cold comes Thread once more; Dalibor's wings have no doubt been reduced due to losses over the winter but none the less they persevere.

Due to the latest of Sixwith's Hatching, the Feast had been set for the following night. This both gave the new weyrlings plenty of time to get ready, as well as the kitchens plenty of time to prepare. The spread was quite impressive, including all the standards favorites. Someone had even got to the trouble of traveling to Southern for a shipment of fresh fruits and vegetables. Desert also included several very large and extra sweet pies, one of which was specially made for the new weyrlings to share. The Dining Hall had been decrorated with colorful banners and filled with joyful music and good smells. All in all, it was a great night for a party!

Once most of the crowd had gathered, Dh'mel stood and cleared his throat for attention. He hated making speaches. Dan'lusian was much better at it than he was. Still, these weyrlings were going to be his responsibility, for better or for worse. Al'dr had already told him some interesting things about these weyrlings, including one half of identical twins. He had no idea how he was going to deal with that one. Well, regardless, all the hatchlings were strong so he wanted to give them a proper welcome.

"Thank you all for coming tonight," Dh'mel started gruffly. He turned and nodded to Frayya. "And thank you Frayya and Sixwith for a healthy strong clutch." Indeed, it had been a large clutch for a tan. And given Sixwith's oddity, he had been a little concerned whether she would care for the eggs. But Frayya made sure everything went well, bless her. Now they had seven new weyrlings to train.

"I won't bore you with a long speech," he droned on with a little smile. "I'm sure you all want to get to eating and dancing. So congratulations to our newly impressed Ghostgazer Weyrlings!" He raised his glass admid the cheers. "Weyrlings remember no wine and I expect you all back in the barracks for an early night. Training starts bright and early tomorrow!"

As Dh'mel sat down to let the Feast begin, Ziprith could not resist putting in her own two cents. Dh'mel could be so dull sometimes! Welcome new younglings! It's such a delight to meet you! I'm Ziprith and Dh'mellove and I look forward to teaching you! We'll have so much fun!

Ziprith, Dh'mel commented privately as he sipped his drink. They aren't supposed to have fun. They're supposed to learn. Why can't they do both? Don't be a spoil sport, Dh'mellove, Ziprith teased.

The first few hours of being a Weyrling, at least when she wasn’t sleeping considering just how late Sixwith’s Hatching was in the day which was also the reason why the Hatching Feast as postponed until tonight. The fact that her Dragonet Koloth wasn’t exactly a great conversationalist wasn’t the problem, at least not yet maybe when he was older, though she could hardly say the same thing about her pillie. Shiff being his usual paranoid self insisted on scouring ever single length of the Weyrling’s barracks and quite frankly she wondered at what length he would go to search when Koloth was old enough for them to pick their own weyr though that won’t be for a while yet.

Dh’mel kept it short at least, Kiveena wasn’t really sure if this would be a trend considering the fact that during the other Hatching Feasts that were held since she arrived at Dalibor Weyr she didn’t really have much time to linger on the proceedings. Really Kiveena didn’t have as long as the riders in full to linger really, considering the fact that she had Weyrling classes to go to in the morning but she had enough time to have a good meal at least. The fact that the Weyrlingmaster’s Dragon chimed in was a nice touch though the Dragon didn’t seem to take the position as seriously as her rider did.
