Upcoming Flights/Runs:

Upcoming Hatchings:

While not unnatural in its violence, the dual hatching of Copper Queens Laanasuth, and Zelsk, has brought many changes Pernwide to the Dragon Candidate program. Raising the Age of Candidacy, and laying more rigorous emotional requirements on those admitted into the program and permitted to stay after. Dalibor has settled into an easy peace with the hatching fading into memory and young dragonets and wherets visible as they come into their own.

Included in their ranks are two colours new to Pern. Indigo dragons, and Pink whers, as well as Dalibor's first instance of a dual-bonded Wherhandler. As always, the West seems eager to produce weirdness for the rest of Pern.

Curiously, a steady flow of messengers seem to be traveling between Grove and Dalibor Weyr during the early sevendays of the new season; which is already proving to be milder than some in Dalibor's recent history.

”Piper, sit!” Holding a bit of wherry jerky between her forefinger and thumb Ruliana peered down at the canine with a smile tugging at the corners of her full lips. Keeping up with training was important for both her canines, especially since they no longer had the fields to patrol and varmints to readily hunt. Eyes focused on the jerky as Piper did as she was told, settling onto her haunches as her tail wagged in anticipation behind her. Satisfied the woman gave the taller of the two canines her treat before turning to her other pet. Seeing that Pepper had sat as well she grinned, ”It’s not that easy and you know it. Lay down. Good boy!” Crouching down she ran her fingers over the deflated poof on top of his head before making a quick circle with her forefinger, ”Roll over!”

As soon as he rolled over she gave him a bit of wherry jerky to make things fair. Standing she tied the treat bag closed and with a soft pop Demeter arrived from between to fetch the pouch and return it to her quarters. Ruliana had learned early on that if she left the pouch out while she was busy doing something else it would soon be ransacked by firelizards; wilds and pets with less than stellar manners had left her treat pouch empty more than once in the beginning. Demeter could be trusted - she knew if she behaved she’d get something far better than wherry jerky as a reward. With the treats secured she stripped off her loose shirt and set it aside, revealing the thick breast band she wore beneath. Wading into the water until it touched her knees she gave a sharp whistle and watched as Pepper trotted out to join her. The green firelizard returned, this time with the sweet sand the woman needed to clean the canines properly. Pouring some from the pouch she tied it to the belt loop on her shorts before crouching in order to work it into Pepper’s fur. Cupping water onto his back then scrubbing with the sweet sand she managed to work up a nice lather all over his body, tail, and his head. Humming to herself she didn’t consider it to be work, she rather enjoyed cleaning her pets up and making sure they looked and felt great. Cupping water in both hands she dumped it over Pepper’s head only to give a squeal-like laugh when he shook in response and sent water droplets flying.

There was an unspoken bond between them thanks to the turns they spent together, all it took was a subtle nod for Pepper to go paddling out into the deeper water. As he swam the lather began to dissipate from his body fur. A quick circle was all it took to clean his fur and he returned to her shortly after so she could finish rinsing his head and ears. With his bath done she sent him off to the shore where he began shaking himself dry as she waded out of the water and fetched one of the large towels she had draped over a nearby rock. ”Alright, let’s get you dry!” Crouching down again she let him shake a few more times before setting to work rubbing him down with the towel, still humming all the while.

Morrigan spent a fair amount of her time watching, often from a distance. People came, and people went. The majority of people she tended to recognize, based on the fact she had spent a fair amount of time at Dalibor Standing for dragons. She had spent the majority of her life Standing for dragons, and truthfully expected nothing to come of it. She had turned twenty this past winter, and thus far the only thing at Dalibor she was thankful for was Ruane and her daughter, Morgrim. If she hadn't come here she never would have met the fiery burgundyrider, or discovered that her child was indeed alive.

A practiced smuggler, one might think the dragon candidate without morals. She, on the other hand, considered herself to be a businesswoman. The woman's flits, sensing that something of mild interest was occurring, burst from /between/. The lightning-marked red immediately took up residence upon the girls right shoulder, while Aconite, an older burgundy, perched upon the left. The pair acted as a couple of hell hounds, guarding their Master and aggressively warning off any who came too close. Seeming rather unfazed by the presence of either flit, Morrigan idly crossed her arms over her chest whilst advancing upon Ruliana.

She had never seen the woman before, and so she might as well get an idea of who this curious stranger was. Her two mongrels were paid no heed, though Aconite was noticeably glowering at the woman's green. "Why hello there, not planning on bathing in there yourself are you?" The taller of the two women quirked a brow at the other, seeming to be sizing her up (in her own way). Sarcasm tended to be Morrigan's main form of communication, regardless of whether or not it was appreciated. All the same, she knew enough not to push too hard. She had a sixth sense for these things, usually.

Still sitting on the shoreline Piper watched as her ‘brother’ was washed in the lake by their owner. Spotting a group of pillies in the water she let out a bark and took off after them, splashing as she ran into the lake. Rolling her eyes Ruliana continued working on drying Pepper fully, his body was fairly dry and now she was focusing on his head and ears. With his sightline disrupted by the towel the smaller canine didn’t notice the candidate’s approach - neither did Ruliana.

Demeter was the only one of the small group to notice Morrigan at all but rather than alerting Hers to the woman’s approach she remained quiet. Tilting her head the green cast a wary eye on the red riding on the woman’s shoulder, though she did perk up when she noticed the burgundy. She was neither fierce nor possessive, but she was a flirt and as long as she didn’t earn the ire of the red she had no problem fluttering her wings and swaying her tail in an effort to draw the burgundy’s attention to her.

Lost in her work with the sound of footfalls on rock and dirt masked by her humming and Piper’s splashing in the lake Ruliana did not realize she was no longer alone until Morrigan spoke. Jumping slightly she was not the only one caught off guard, Pepper wiggled out from beneath the towel so he could look up at the woman, barking in surprise at what he perceived to be her sudden existence. Rushing towards him with his tail wagging he began sniffing around her feet and legs, ”Sorry about Pepper there, he loves people.” Slowly standing up she tossed the wet towel over her shoulder, hands bracing against her lower back as she leaned back in order to stretch. Warm brown eyes quickly took in the sight of the taller woman with a firelizard on either shoulder, ”Isn’t that what the baths are for?”

Certainly she’d noticed that many things were different in the Weyr than they had been back on her little slice of Pern in the south but she’d yet to see anyone openly bathing in the lake. Her arrival during the winter might have played a part in that, the waters were just now warming up enough to be comfortable for swimming; even during the spring they’d been rather chilly. She’d never considered her upbringing to be ‘sheltered’ until arriving at Dalibor - there was still a lot she had to learn about Weyr life. Done stretching she stood with one hand on her hip while pointing at the red then burgundy with the other, ”What are their names?”

It would seem that she had spooked the girl. There was the barest hint of laughter on Morrigan's lips, presented in the fashion of a smirk. She was met with barking, to which her only response was to hold out a boot for the canine to sniff. "Pepper? You don't say..." And thus further teasing was underway. Ruliana stood, towel casually tossed over one shoulder, freeing up her hands. She stretched then, and the smuggler merely looked on in appreciation. There was no real aversion in the girls eyes as Ruliana took in the woman standing before her. "Someone perhaps a tad bit shy?" Morrigan shot back, containing further laughter for the sake of the newcomer.

Cyanide was unconcerned with the presence of the green, ignoring her entirely, or so it would seem. The red instead chose to preen, eyes whirring a mix of like red hues. Aconite, on the other hand, hissed. How dare the indolent little green look at him. He earned himself a quick glance from Morrigan, whose green eyes stilled him near immediately. Hunkering down upon the woman's shoulder, the burgundy reigned on in silence. Morrigan had a handle on her pair, regardless of their incorrigible natures. Neither would bother the girl, or her flit, unless the taller woman requested that they do so. As it stood, the dragon candidate wasn't much for making a scene.

When the other spoke again, it was to gesture at Aconite and Cyanide. Seeming to realize she was being mentioned, the red slowly raised her head up from beneath her wing, turning her red eyed gaze upon Ruliana. "Should I be offended that they get the honor of primary introductions?" she inquired, forcing out a sigh in faux disappointment. Then, all the same, she replied with, "this here's Aconite," and she looked to the older male, "and dagger eyes over here is Cyanide." The red did not receive a glance from her, but rather she touched the creature's mind with an image that suggested complacence.

"As for myself, well, I'm Morrigan. No fancy title really, but I figure there's power enough in a name." Green eyes fell upon Pepper once more before flickering back to Ruliana. "And to whom might I have the pleasure of speaking with?" There was no hint of jest then, simply an ease of sincerity.

If there was a hidden agenda behind the other’s looks or words it was lost on Ruliana; she was not a dimglow but nor was she yet accustomed to the way things were at Dalibor. It wouldn’t be the first time she’d been told she was shy - likely wouldn’t be the last either given her predisposition to being rather quiet. Yet it wasn’t because she was quiet that the other woman had called her out, but because she prefered to bathe privately rather than in the middle of the weyrbowl. Things certainly were different here, weren’t they? Shaking her head lightly she lifted both brows as she regarded the woman, ”Perhaps.” Pepper sniffed all around the woman before his nose picked up on something better and he took off following it. Glancing back to the lake she wondered how long Piper would keep herself entertained chasing pillies about; she certainly seemed to be enjoying herself.

Demeter was put off by the burgundy scorning her attempts at flirtation but did not react negatively to the male, she simply continued to sit and watch both of the other woman’s firelizards with interest. Noting the red preening she began to do the same, mimicking the other female as if that might earn the male’s favor. Tail lashed back and forth as she spread her left wing out and nudged her muzzle over it.

”Pepper you met, that one out in the lake is Piper.” Lifting her hand she pointed over her shoulder to the lake where the lankier canine was paddling about. Eyes flicked to the burgundy then the red as they were introduced, finally settling on the woman when she gave her name. ”I’m Ruliana, she’s Demeter.” A nod was given towards the green firelizard as she rounded out the introductions. Chewing the inside of her cheek, a nervous habit she’d picked up at some point, she looked towards the barracks briefly. ”You’re one of them, aren’t you? A candidate I mean. You were on the sands for the hatching with that red.” Quiet as she was she paid attention to the things going on around her. No doubt it helped that she spent time walking the canines through the weyrbowl, so she got used to seeing the faces going in and out of the barracks even if they never seemed to notice her.

The girl wasn't one to be toyed with, clearly. Even Morrigan knew when a battle wasn't worth fighting, and so she eased up. "A fan of... canines, I see." The creature sniffed about her feet before tearing off across the breadth of the lake. She couldn't see herself getting such an animal, personally, but to each their own. There were several icehowler's about the Weyr, likely brought in from the Traders; now those she could see being a worthwhile companion. "Can't say I've spotted you about our fair Weyr before," she noted, leaving way for the other woman to say her piece. Whether she was a newcomer, or a crafter, it mattered very little to Morrigan. Idle chitchat and conversation was simply something she engaged in for her own purposes.

Aconite turned himself right around, avoiding looking at Ruliana's flit. He already had a queen, and he would not go upsetting her by paying attention to a commoner. Snorting, for he was quite an indignant little creature, it wasn't long before the burgundy took to the air. Cyanide watched him go, huffing at his lack of control. It was easy enough to ignore the overconfident fighter, why couldn't he manage to do so without causing a scene? Morrigan let her flits be, seeing as they weren't causing any real trouble. Aconite had always been fussy, so no real surprise there.

"Well then, introductions made I suppose." Morrigan observed Demeter whilst the woman spoke, quirking a brow at Ruliana's "one of them" expression. "Yes love, Candidate would be the proper term." Had she never met a candidate before? Just where had this poor child grown up? "Was that the first hatching you've ever witnessed? I could've sworn you were dragon-bound yourself." The girl did appear as if she had the makings of a candidate, but what did she know-hm? "I was indeed. Quite the day of fun, that. Not all hatching's are quite so... engaging. A fair few are however, that I can't bother to hide." She referred to the hatchling as "that red", which gave Morrigan the impression that she had been rattled by the dragonets actions. Morrigan had seen worse, frankly. It hadn't bothered her in the least. Mauling's happened, deaths happened. It was the natural order of things when one was a candidate. It wasn't as if the Candidatemaster's, or even the riders, kept such events secret.
