Welcome
Dalibor is a semi-canon Dragonriders of Pern site. No knowledge of the series or site is required to join; players of all experience levels are welcome here. Founded in 2008 on Proboards and moved to Jcink in 2013, Dalibor has been running for nine years.

News
Winter, 18th Turn, 11th Pass

Upcoming Flights/Runs:
Red Ingoth

Upcoming Hatchings:

Winter is in full swing as the Northwest reaches the middle stages of the cold month, and Dalibor, taking full advantage of a crackdust filled break in Threadfall, is back at it again. Delving into the Southern ice and snow, they have paired with Grove Weyr to fully explore the lands they only slightly uncovered the previous turn during the Jungle Expedition. This, however, will not be a warm and relaxing waltz through the woods; although was it ever that to begin with?

Grove Weyr.

Tail end of Summer.

Word had been sent to Dalibor of a deep jungle that Grove had discovered to the Southwest of their founding. They had kept it relatively safe from Thread, but had--as of yet--been unable to penetrate within its depths to discover whatever resources might be lurking there. One of their Weyrlingmasters had informed them that Dalibor had a knack for things like this: Going into unexplored country and coming out with a detailed map, and possibly a lot of wealth.

So they had sent him, and Dalibor had answered the call. Now they sat mustered within the Weyr; Dragonriders and Wherhandlers alike ready to venture into the deep darkness of trees unlike most would have ever seen, or could have ever imagined. Some of their Crafters came, their Weyrriders, those who would stay within the safety of the walls, and those who might help transport the voyagers to the edge of the overgrowth before returning to safety.

There amidst the bustle was a tent set up where Ro'ark handed out packets of hide and quills, as well as small satchels of glows. It was dark under those trees. The canopy would block out almost all light: It meant whers could explore by day if they chose to do so, but more importantly that visibility would be low. Each pair would be required to bring back a completed map of their segment to help complete the topography of their target.

There were other tents as well. One for Beastcrafters, eagerly awaiting any fauna discoveries. Healercrafters, seeking out the flora, and Harpercrafters itching to take individual interviews from those returning--and going--so that they could record a completed chronicle of the events that would follow. Minecrafters, even Vintners. Everyone seemed to have a stake in this adventure. It was entirely likely that some of Dalibor's own Crafters were present in those tents, though everything was being run by Grove's own. It was the least they could do, after all.

Front and center was a giant hide stretched between poles and divided into a grid with marked numbers. As each team returned their map would be laid over the number they had chosen, and slowly the map would come to life in front of their eyes.

Qivi
Dragon/Wher
Square: 6

@RhiaBlack

Oh, this was going to be fun!

Dekandaeth disagreed, but he always did. If this endangers you...
"Then it wouldn't be any fun? Quit being so boring," Qivi scolded with a slap to the dragon's shoulder. She leaned as far over as she could, peering down at the green canopy with awe. "How's everyone doing?" She called, aware of the wher dangling beneath her black. The handler was behind her and Dek was, of course, less than thrilled about carting the wher, nevermind having him attached to him via rope and his straps.

Qivi thought it was brilliant.

Mutorin (w/Qivi)

@Captain

Mutt hadn't explored anything in a very, very long time. Normally Musk was abhorred by the prospect of new and uncharted territories, but he also knew how hell-bent Mutt was on furthering his craftswork. Adamant about Herbalism and Botany, the chance to get his hands on new flora that were previously undiscovered, and what that could mean for the various other crafts that followed suit. Healercraft, Bakercraft, any other myriad of things they could be used for, and for all the apprehension that it was causing between Jyderin and Z'dyn to have him gone - let alone what Al'dr thought - he was ultimately doing something that would further the progression of people on Pern as a whole.

Wasn't that what being a Handler and a Crafter was all about?

He wasn't, however, terribly fond of heights. Musk's goggles had been put on to protect his Blue's eyes in the daylight, but once they were under the relative darkness of the canopy, he'd be back to wearing them on his own head until they were needed again. A small pack with some basic first-aid supplies on his belt, water, and some snack-rations, he'd worn his leathers purely for the fact it would keep out some of the biting bugs and such. And of course, a moderately-sized machete and smaller belt-knife for defense. He checked and re-checked his wher, nervous for Musk; that was his other half, that was his mind-mate, and he would keep worrying until they were back on the ground once again.

"Me feet're on solid ground again, love, an' I'll be jus' fine, aye?" Mutt was laid back, considerably, but no less soothed by the distance above-ground that they were. Oi.

S'vor
Dragon/Dragon
Square: 23

There was nothing like an adventure of exploration to excite S'vor. Any and all excuses to venture into unexplored territory were met with a resounding 'yes please!' and volunteering to go. Absinth was not pleased about the fact Hers would be venturing where she could not go, eventually. Still, the tall greenrider was not about to let that stop him.

"We'll start out together, my dear, but I'll have a wherhandler with me at all times if you are not there. Whers are not to be scoffed at, you know." It was true he was merely trying to reassure her. The reason he had chosen to start out where she could accompany was merely to placate the green.

I do not like this, Mine. What if you are attacked or injured, and I cannot reach you? Why must you go? There are plenty of others to do so. She knew why, but she would ask, anyhow.

"You know why. What is life without a little adventure? I promise to be as careful as I can. You know I can look out for myself--and I'll hardly be alone." Absinth knew there was nothing she could say to dissuade him. So it was that they found themselves with a viridianrider and his dragon, T'garn and Viscerioth. They had discussed the map in length, and chosen to go to the spot marked at the edge of it. It was a place their dragons and they could go, and so they set out, landing in the spot and beginning to look around...

Wher/Wher.
NPCs Amalthea of Green Amalthesk, and Barret of Blue Barresk
Square:12

Amalthea's short hair was pulled back with a headband, and her weyrmate Barret raised an eyebrow at her, smirking. She simply rolled her eyes and took his hand, tugging him south. She loved the adventure, and he just enjoyed seeing her look so happy. Her Green, following behind the pair, was trying to get his Blue to play. As usual. The two of them were as enamored with each other as their people were. A nice little family they made.

"Come on, others are already heading out!" Amalthea laughed. "I wonder what we'll find!"

"It's not all fun and games you know," he reminded her, tugging on her arm to get her to slow down a bit. "Remember, they've been having problems down here with giant wild felines. And who knows what else might be lurking." She smiled at him and dropped a soft kiss on his cheek.

"You worry too much, you know that?" she said with a laugh. "Amalthesk, stop pestering Barresk and let's get a move on, shall we?"

Coming! Amalthesk responded, bounding the few steps between her mate and her human. Amalthesk ready! We explore now?

"Yes, my dear, we explore now," Amalthea agreed.

Barresk come too, the Blue insisted, taking a more laid-back pace than Amalthesk had. Barresk explore with Amalthest, make sure protect Amalthesk, Amalthesk's, and Barresk's.

"And we are glad to have you along, pal," Barret assured the Blue.

Dragon/Dragon: L'aars of Iron Jaireth/NPC Eldrid of Blue Zanth
Square: 22

.

Grove Weyr called for help.

Strange to consider given that he came at Dalibor's behest when the weyr's formation left them in need of Seconds. L'aars was far from one to back from a task such as this. He would do anything in his power to assist.

Thus he set out with other explorers. The jungle was humid, making him sweat in his riding leathers. Jaireth said almost nothing as His made plans with the rider partnered with him. Eldrid and Zanth were a boastful pair, full of courage and an evident love of adventure. With luck they would make a decent team in this area marked on the map as dragons only.

I do not like this... Jaireth voiced at last. He was wary. Who knew what kind of dangers awaited and here they were out in them with a stranger. "We'll be fine, Jair." L'aars said, wishing he felt more confident in that declaration.

G’len / N’Baatar; 21

The last couple of times Dalibor did the whole ‘explore new territory’ thing, G’len was unable to go. The Northern Wastes one, he had been too sick with a cold to go explore and meet new people. The second time, when it was exploring the caves the so-called Palefolk occupied, he was the Senior Weyrleader, and didn’t wish to give the Weyr’s enemies a valuable pawn to bargain with if he was somehow captured by them. Good reasons, to be sure, but massively disappointing to the former Trader man.

But this time, G’len was just (HA!) a Wingleader, and was far freer to go this time. And go he was determined to do, whatever his Zeuth thought about it. So it was that the Bronzerider found himself staring at the large leather map, making his decision on where to explore first. He loooooved going places that he’d never been before, and this was a perfect time and place to do it.

The young man with him, N’baatar, was far grumpier about this mission. He’d been among the first of his Northern people to come South to explore new lands and report back what he learned about the new customs to his Elders. After much thinking about it and talking it over with his Sheith, he decided to come along for this.

Partially to see for himself what exactly a jungle was like from the ground, partially to make sure that any people they came across that chose to live apart from the rest (like his Northern people did) wouldn’t be exploited by greedy Craftspeople. And partially because the Burgundyrider wanted to see jungle animals in their native habitat, instead of just hearing about them from his teachers.

Thus it was that the two rider men set out into the hot humid jungle, with their respective firelizards (eight altogether) in attendance, to see what was there.

Captain / Qivi

Hey, the jungle doesn't seem so scary from here. Not dark or anything, and you're still half-walking through the long savannah-type grasses so typical of this area. So what if there are some gnarly roots coming out and trying to tangle your legs. It's actually a good thing, because that's how you find this weird looking...erm...well what is it anyway?

Ruriko / S'vor

You head out over open water, and that's all you can see for what seems like forever save for the land over your shoulder, the dark edges of the jungle encroaching to the west, and the rocky shores of Skerry Hold almost like dots on the horizon to the east. There seems to be absolutely nothing here at all to mark on your map, save for the shoreline. That is until...

A sudden gust of wind is at your dragon's back, it pushes you down relentlessly to open water

Absinth's small frame is able to escape the ferocious winds narrowly, but your partner is not so lucky. An awkward wingbeat from the Viridian and CRACK, he howls as he crashes into the waves. A heartbeat and then between. He reappears at Grove, dousing part of the Bowl in water. He's alive, but broken. T'garn will not ride out again during this Expedition.

-

Summer / Amalthea

You decide to follow the river in, at least there's light here for you. Or there would be, but you're forced to head out at night due to your wher's sensitive eyes. That's alright though. The river is beautiful, and for now, peaceful. You encounter no dangers. However, upon stopping to slake your thirst, you find an interesting plant.

Cat / L'aars

Open water. Wind in your...goggles? Well in your dragon's wingmembranes at the very least. It seems there's absolutely nothing out here of interest. And then, just when you've written it all off as nothing--and possibly after watching a Viridian be almost killed like a tiny small speck of green being forced down into a crush of blue--glinting leaping shapes down below draw your attention. You go in for a closer look, and your dragons make sure to catch a few in their talons to take back for further inspection.

Tiger / G'len

Ah the fresh open...well it looks like an ocean, but you know from maps that Skerry Hold is located on a small island far to the east. Maybe it's a Southern Sea of some type, definitely not saltwater though, the Weyr would have been able to report that easily. You see jungle encroaching on the western shore, but other than that? Little else. You ready yourselves to go between and return to Grove when it happens.

The initial jolt picks you both up as if you are nothing but feathers on the wind, and slams you into one another. It is lucky that one is so much smaller than the other. By the time you make it back to Grove to assess the injuries you can only thank whatever might've been looking out for you that it wasn't worse. A few small wingtears means a little bit of extra time needed on the ground; no worries, you're assured that these ones will heal quickly.

S'idon and Yalenia explore area 5 (you may drastically injure Yalenia if the need calls for it)
Dragon/Wher

It was another adventure as it were. They had arrived a little later than some of the others but Silvianith's eyes were wide with excitement as she spotted people bringing back some treasures. She was practically dancing from leg to leg as she itched to get going. Perhaps they would find some wonderful things to add to her collection. Some cool, neat trinkets. The light pink, small dragon crooned to the green wher as the handler pair joined them.
Welcome, welcome oh hurry we must be on our way or all the good treasures will be gone!

S'idon reached up and climbed onto her back, assisting the small wherhandler to take a position on Silvianith's back as Yalesk, the green growled at the prospect of being held. With a thought, they were in the air. Those on the ground would hear a WHEEEEEEEEEEEE from the pink as she shot forth into the skies.

Yalenia scanned the ground, Yalesk shouting in her mind about one thing or another.
ARE STUPID LAST TIME YALESK'S YALENIA GET HURT BY STUPID SHINY GOLD ONE'S. STUPID. WHY HERE.
The grumpy green huffed again and settled only slightly into her position. For the only reason that if she squirmed she might go plummeting to the ground.
It will not happen again. We are not even on the ground this time.
THINK YALESK NOT KNOW THAT? YALESK HATE BEING HIGH IN SKY.
MAKE YALESK SICK. STUPID DRAGONS. WHY FLY? NOT NORMAL. NOT NATURAL.

Well, at least Yalesk was looking at the ground, Yalenia reflected thoughtfully. Eventually they would land and explore the ground. Then Yalesk would find something else to complain about no doubt.

Czervon/Czervosk (Ride-Along is Der/Desk!)
Wher/Wher
Square: 11

@Rii

He wasn't entirely sold on the idea.
After all, the last time they'd been out and doing anything having to do with an excursion, his weyrmate had almost drowned. Czervon wasn't entirely up for a repeat of that, but Der had a wanderlust - as did the former brigand - that couldn't be sated by patrols and staying in the safest of places alone.

And so, after much discussion, he and Czervosk had departed alongside his beloved Der and Desk. The trip over hadn't taken terribly long; dragonriders were as excited about this as anyone was, and the trip between - while cold - had been forgotten as soon as the humid heat of the Southern Summer had blasted them. 'Vosk was beside himself with glee; the wher loved learning, exploring, just being anywhere with His. It was a refreshing change of pace from patrols, from the same-old, same-old. And on top of that, he had Desk with him again!

Once they were on the ground, the over-excited, goggled Blue nudged his Gray companion with a state of joy that was undeniable. He wound himself up against the behemoth he belonged to, nearly purring.

No water this time, 'Vosk declared, Need be careful. Not want to lose Desk, Der again.
"Certainly not."

Shouldering his pack with some supplies they might need - rope, pickaxe, some medical supplies, water, and some jerky - Czervon pulled the cowboy hat down over his ears and waved away a VTOL before pulling the machete's strap tighter against his belt.

"Be careful when we're in the thick of it, 'Vosk. I don't want to catch you with the blade when we're clearing stuff."
Be careful. Not worry.

Czervon slid a hand to the small of his weyrmate's back.

"Once more into the breach?"

Nevitheran (ridealong w/ Raistlin/Raisk!)
Wher/Wher

@Raining

Nevitheran had never been on anything quite like this, but his other half was excited. As much as he could tell they were, at least, but either way it was certainly a chance to get out and about. The premise of going was Nevisk, clearly, because like usual his Gold had pushed him to do things that would ultimately benefit the Weyr. Their Weyr, not just Grove. That was, once Raistlin had brought the idea up.

His excitement wasn't in the heat, the bugs, the humidity that made his hair frizz to the point he'd simply braided it along his head and shoved it under a hat. No, it was the prospect of finding new plants, by which he could formulate dyes for new clothing, and potentially soften the blow to his parents that he was involved with someone who could never give him children. Nevitheran didn't care. He'd quickly gleaned that he was in love with Raistlin, and it didn't matter if they had children or not. He'd already formulated a plan where they could adopt a child that looked enough like both of them to convince his parents he had a lineage-continuation.

He just hoped it worked.

Nevisk brought him back to the world of the competent with a whiplike pop of her tail, and Nev hissed at her between gritted teeth as he rubbed his hip.

"You just had to drag us down here to the Land of Bugs and Humidity, Nevisk..."
For Reasons, Nevisk King.
"Oh yeah, what--"
Nev paused to smash a VTOL, and growled with a sigh, "--what Reasons are those?"
Time with Raistlin, new dyes for clothes like I say, and things for Raisk murder. You know how Raisk LOVE murder things. Best defense wher ever, Nevisk think.

She bumped the Red's shoulder with her massive crocodile-size head, not content just for that initial contact, but to run the entire lithe, whipcord, six-foot-tall length of her body along Raisk's own. Nevitheran caught his lover's beltloop, running his hand across Raistlin's side and back before he brushed their neck with his lips. He paid no mind to those looking at them - naturally, rumor mills would have been running, and the wild-laid, Dalibor-hatched Gold coming on any expedition would have its share of nay-sayers and gossips.

"We must be careful, my love," he whispered. "The last thing I want is to have to carry you back to take you between, or likewise you have to suffer that for me. That being said....I have the desire to beat the pants off every other wayward surveyor here. Shall we?"

They'd packed a pair of packs with potential necessary items - rope, medical supplies, snacks, water, and then the blades to hack and slash through the undergrowth. Nevisk hissed, before long strides carried her forward beside Raisk.

Der/Desk (ridealong with Czervon/Czervosk)

Der was eager for the expedition. He lived for moments like this, when they could look ahead at totally uncharted territory and know that they were going to explore it. It made the grouchy, usually dour and reclusive man smile.

The only thing that made him smile more, was the man standing next to him. They'd talked a long time about whether or not they should go, what could happen, what they wanted. Der had been definite: he wanted to go, and it would take more than the misfortunes of past expeditions to convince him to stay home.

Besides. There wasn't likely to be any floods or gigantic hailstones in a jungle.

Desk was looking forward to it too, albeit in a lazier fashion. She nudged Czervosk back. Like the blue, she was goggled - although they expected that once they got fully into the jungle, it would be dim enough that whers wouldn't need goggles. Not lose. Der, I, too good for that.

"She's a wealth of confidence." Der grinned up at the bluehandler. "Once more. Or a few times more."

Pack on his back, armor on his body, and blade in hand, he joined Czervon in wading into the overgrowth, hacking it out of the way when needed to make a path.

Boo / Yalenia

It's easy going here, where grassland rises up to meet the growth of sprouting trees, but you can tell from your look into the darkness between the trees that 'easy' it won't be for long. You spend time swishing through the waist-high grass and gnarly tree-roots reaching out like hands from the jungle beyond, and stumble upon a prize tucked into a crooked nook near the deepest parts in your Southwestern corner.

Rhia / Czervon

You are the first into the thick of it, though you probably have the nagging suspicion even this isn't as thick as it will eventually be. This is new growth--at least on the scale of a forest. It's spread this far from..somewhere down South, and surely down there is where the oldest and tallest trees will be. There really isn't much for you to map, is there? You try to shade the canopy to show where some light filters through, but other than that you're in a world of endless green shade. That is...until something colourful pops out and latches itself onto you. It doesn't look like any Combie whersport you've seen before.

NPC Janora
Dragon/Wher
Square: 4

The burgundies eyes whirred a deep red as his rider leapt from his back. The woman's tangle of black hair resembled the gnarled jungle vines. Her sharp features gave her a perpetual fierceness. Fierce was what the expedition required. There was little that the burgundyrider feared, and while it had gotten her into countless scrapes in her long career as a dragonrider, it had also saved her ass on more than one occasion. So, into the jungle she went, and with a most curious man at her side. The wherhandler, Yendev of bronze Yensk, was rather like his companion. Both were individuals that took the time to properly assess their surroundings, and gather information. The pair of them were carrying more weapons than most would deem necessary. The majority of said weapons were on Janora's person. The middle-aged woman's over-preparedness often proved to be a benefit.

Falkreath, like a jungle cat in search of prey, kept a sharp eye on the brush. He said very little, never having been the sort to address anyone other than His. Even now, he challenged His. They were constantly in a mental war, one against the other. In truth, Falkreath knew His' intelligence rivaled his own. He wasn't willing to admit it, but he knew it--so did she.

The older harper kept close to the woman whom he had chosen to accompany. The pair of them barely knew each other, and yet their goals were much the same. Janora had spent the majority of her life fighting for everything she laid claim to. She had not been born as a woman of means, by any right. Yendev himself knew what it was to work hard, what with having been raised among harpers. The older man, well into his sixties, was still strong of body and spirit. They made a good team, even if neither would say so. With their eyes on the prize, the pair ventured further in.

Don't go getting caught off-guard, the burgundy cautioned, not caring much for his inability to keep close to his rider. The dragon was a known hellion, especially in the face of danger. Yesk travelled in-between the two humans, his great head raised high so that he may better see the approaching dangers.

NPC C'laen of Brown Aakavath
Square 32
Dragon/Dragon (Open)

When volunteers were called for in order to explore the South, C'laen had been one of the first to sign up. To be frank, he was getting tired of the cold and was happy for the chance to warm up, if however briefly. Besides, Aakavath would be interested in exploring, curious creature that he was. The Brownrider also hoped to return with a present or two for his children, as there had to be something interesting among the foliage.

When we're done, might I take a bath in the lake? The water must be warm... the Brown said wistfully as he glided as slow as he could so C'laen could sketch the land below them. The Rider rubbed out a small section of his map and redrew the line.

Of course. I can't imagine anyone would mind, C'laen replied, breathing deeply of the jungle air and thinking that wouldn't be a terrible idea for himself as well.

NPC F'ox of Cyan Bismuth
Dragon/Wher
Square: 2

F’ox clicked his tongue as he surveyed the wilds they had found themselves in. It was dense jungle as far as the eye could see, and he was just waiting to plunge into it’s depths. He could smell the greenery and the faint hint of sweat, as well as the spicy hide of Bismuth. The cyan moved with a certain about of grace, her broad nose poking in into the brush almost curiously. If F’ox was not excited to be here, Bismuth was. The cyan had an almost unquenchable curiosity and thirst for adventure, and of course, she just got it!
Oh, ho, ho F’ox I can smell sooooo much. Do you think we’ll see one of the jungle felines? Oh! Or maybe we’ll discover something new! How exciting~ F’ox sighed. He was, at least, the more prepared of the two. Several beltknives sat around his waist, though he hoped not to use them. And he wasn’t the only one decked out in weaponry too.

Behind him was a delicate slip of a woman. Rozen. Her pale hair was pulled into a runner’s tail and she too was decked out in several knives. Though she really didn’t need them. The hulking green at her side was likely enough to scare most creatures.
“Bismuth, be careful.” If not for the slight smile, one might almost assume it was an admonishment. Rozen spoke in flat tones, barely holding a hint of emotion in her voice. F’ox glared at his partner, he knew when to rein his dragon in, shardit.

Rozsk said little, but instead ventured shifted slightly. The green was not fond of flight, her own stumpy wings doing little to aid her in gliding. Rozen kept a hand

Oh, Rozen, F’ox, what about wheresports? Do you think we’ll see Whersports? F’ox placed a steadying hand on her side of her neck as he peered over.
“See anything yet?” He asked. Though he only got a slight hum from Rozen. Of course, why did he even bother?

Kiveena and Oreanda @Ruin
Square 10
Dragon/wher

Kiveena wasn’t nearly as enthusiastic at the prospect of going to the Southern Continent, less because of what they could possibly see/learn and more about the possibility of serious injury, as her Burgundy but she went none the less to Pern’s youngest Weyr. Though it wasn’t the area that her parents had grown up in, that was a good ways north-east in Hope Hold, it did have a familiar feel to what was described in her parents’ stories of their time in the Southern Continent.

Geared up for the expedition Koloth was significantly more excited for whatever awaited for him and his rider in the area around Grove Weyr, though he knew that that Kiveena’s caution wasn’t without merit. That was the reason why all of Kiveena’s pets were more or less (some of course being more receptive to the idea, Higat, than others) forced to stay back in Dalibor Weyr for the time being only being able to come as far as base camp. They would have to wait for a partner to come about which didn’t really make Koloth happy but he didn’t have much in the way to do about it so he waited as patiently as he could.

Raistlin/Raisk and Nevitheran(Ride-along) @RhiaBlack
Square: 18
Wher/wher

Excitement buzzed under their skin, only amplified by Raisk's urge to explore new territory as her own hide rippled, much the same. It was one of Dalibor's expeditions that attracted Raistlin to Dalibor, the last one in fact. The very one that brought home Nevisk's egg. The very one that bonded to Nevitheran who was now someone Raistlin could never live without, despite their previous aloof feelings on love and romance. Never did they think they'd find someone who didn't care about how Raistlin viewed themselves. But they never looked hard, due to that large fact about themselves.

A low growl rumbled deeply from Raisk when Nevisk full body rubbed her. But it was pretty non-aggressive, even for her. It could have even been a wher version of a deep rumbling purr, either way it was something Raisk did whenever Raistlin or Nevisk touched her. So Raistlin surmised it to be an affectionate sound... at the very least.

They were pulled closer to their love and a smile spread over their face. One of Raistlin's hands caught the man's chin and pulled him into a kiss, a kiss they didn't care who witnessed either. Raistlin was pretty indifferent feeling towards PDA. If they could ignore it and go on their business then others could too.

"Worry not, sweetbunches. I am indestructible," they teased gently with a crooked smile as they grabbed their half of the supplies. "Now lets go get you some new dyes, hmm? If not today, then, tomorrow or the next day, excreta and so forth." After all, they were along for the ride for the adventure.

Anything to get their blood pumping. Its been so long.

Raisk was given a longer "leash" as she trotted ahead with the Gold at her side. Her eyes were their usual crimson, but green was present in brilliant contrasting starbursts as she forged forward.

B’tor & Tavistrath/ NPC Fraggle & Green Frask
Dragon/Wher
Square 19

B’tor had no idea what, exactly, one could find in a jungle. However, in the name of adventure, glory, and pure unfettered curiosity, he was going to find out. Tavistrath had cautioned against it, but not too strongly – she too was curious, and it seemed to her a noble thing to want to help another Weyr. B’tor’s intentions weren’t quite so pure; he really just wanted to go and find out what lived in the Southern Jungle. That he could easily die seemed not to matter to him; he just wanted to do something spectacular.

While his green was less certain of their combined survival, she had acquiesced under the condition that Hers be careful. He had cheerfully agreed and off they’d flown to the base camp near Grove Weyr. Now Tavistrath circled anxiously overhead, repeating great slow rings over the portion of brush Hers had chosen to foray into. Accompanying them was a wherhandler B’tor had never met before, but whom he had happily adopted into the party. Fraggle of green Frask was a wiry, dour little man, and his wher was equally wiry and marginally more dour. But she was battle-scarred and fierce, her long narrow body hard with muscle and her eyes whirling a careful yellow.

Please be cautious, Tavistrath begged Hers, straining for a glimpse of him through the roof of the jungle. B’tor’s warm assurances rippled back at her even as, preceded by Frask, he wandered through deepening shadows. I have you to take care of me, he sent cheerfully.

Yes, you do, she returned, and her tone was surprisingly dark. They both knew that if there was the slightest chance of success, Tavistrath would rip through endless amounts of jungle to reach Hers. But, though she did not tell hers, the green very much feared that if too much greenery stood in her way, she might not reach B’tor in time.

He, however, was having the time of his life!

Zaela of Pink Nektisuth
@Harbinger

Ride-a-long for C'laen of Brown Aakavath

Exciting, exciting, exciting! Nektisuth had been repeating that for at least a candlemark and Zaela looked ready to throttle the pink. "See anything?" She called to C'laen, leaning in her straps to peer down. "Beyond water," she clarified, glaring at the water below. It all looked the same. What wasn't blue was green. What wasn't water was tree.

They'd asked for volunteers and, of course, Nektisuth had volunteered them. Zaela had gone because the pink had wanted it and, well, frankly, maybe something would pop up. Better to be part of the adventure than miss out because she was too busy being pissy in her weyr.

Oreanda & Bronze Osk (With Mopsy/Kiveena)

Anda was entirely more enthusiastic than her partner. Maybe she was just trying to forget what had happened the last time she'd gone on a mission for Dalibor. There wouldn't be people out in this jungle. At least she didn't think there would be. Osk didn't mind Koloth carrying them there, he'd learned to trust dragons a long time ago--sometimes it was easier than waiting for a dragon to give them an image to a new place so they could travel between.

The Prideleader offered the Dragonrider an encouraging smile. It wouldn't be bad, right? Maybe they'd find something truly amazing out in this jungle. Something that would make them both wealthy, or bring them favour from the Weyrleadership. Maybe even Norla would notice her and make her a Betahandler someday. All of these things were out there. So many possibilities.

Zane / Janora

One of the final areas of the map not yet explored, but just on the cusp of the Jungle, is where you land. You walk over the same savanna type grasses that others have walked, and you venture in to the gnarly roots and reaching vines of the new-growth trees where they stand like sentinels on the edge of the abyss. You've probably never seen trees like these in your life, in fact, other than the view from above that Grove's Riders saw each Fall, you are one of the very first to even breathe upon these trees in who knows how long. Your area is seemingly empty until you push just enough into the Southernmost edges of your quadrant and stumble across something wondrous. Growing and twining around the trees, sprouting from their roots, in a little barely-lit grove where the sunlight can pierce by day but now is bathed only in stars, are the most beautiful flowers Pern has ever seen. They glow with a luminescence that makes them outshine the sky above.

This intricately beautiful flower is something to behold, surely someone would be interested in this

Harbinger / C'laen

The ocean calls to you. I mean, it has to, otherwise why would you be flying over it when almost every other pair to come out here has very nearly died. That's the name of the game though, isn't it? Exploration in the face of certain death. That's why you're a Dragonrider. Pern's last defense. Unfortunately, there isn't anything to defend against out here, only waves, water, and a shoreline filled with untold treasures just out of reach. You would've gotten away with it, and your little dragon too, if it wasn't for those pesky winds.

user posted image
A sudden gust of wind is at your dragon's back, it pushes you down relentlessly to open water

The force is powerful enough to drag your dragons together, and unfortunately the joint between them is your body. You feel bones snap between their hides before your dragon can extract himself and send you both between to safety. Unfortunately, in the process, a piece of your partner is ripped between as well, without the rest of her. You require as much immediate assistance as Zaela does; there is blood everywhere, and your arm seems to hang crooked. Maybe next time will be better?

+8 Hours to Cooldown: 5am PST 10/26

Blot / F'ox

Now this area doesn't seem so bad...yet. Savanna grass, a little bit of trees growing, still few enough of them that you can see moonlight on the blades of grass. There's a soft quiet sound as well, like silk, as the wind ripples through the foliage. You map your quadrant in record time thanks to how little obtrusive brush there is, and you're only just finishing the wooded area in the South when you realize the soft noise has been following you. Or maybe it never really left. You turn, and a face leaps out of the shadows at you. It flashes past your ear and then recoils back. It was surely larger than your torso, or was it larger still? It's so hard to see in the dark! Your Wher partner goes berserk, and suddenly there are roiling coils folding out of the shadows and coiling all around her green body.

Thread? Thread here? But no...there is a furious wheezing hiss and suddenly you understand.

user posted image
Something slithers out of the darkness, it sounds like death

It's hard to get measurements in the dark but its coils are able to fully wrap the adult Green and make her disappear, but she is a furious opponent, and so are you and her Handler. The fight only lasts a few heartbeats, but in the end a very dead--and very enormous--snake lay dead at your feet. When you drag it back to camp you'll find out it's over 30 feet long, and hopefully the only of its kind.

-

Mopsy / Kiveena

It's barely even night when Koloth drops you and your Wherpartner into the jungle. You've chosen a place where moon--and sunlight--can still filter through, so you do have to go at dusk. It's possible later teams will discover that the jungle is so thick even the whers can travel by day beneath the canopy. Here, however, the jungle fades to a dim purple as you enter and sink beneath the last rays of Rukbat. The going is slow, but faster for the lack of dense growth, and the wher makes better time than either of you--your partner stays afoot so you aren't alone. That's for the best, because you're safer when you're attacked.

user posted image
So bright, you'd think you wouldn't miss it stalking

There almost isn't any warning. Just a sudden scream but it's already looming overhead mid-leap. Luckily you aren't alone, and luckier still that while your Wherpartner may be blind, her wher is not. Osk intercepts the beast mid-leap and the two begin a ferocious battle. It's far larger than even the largest Southern Feline, it's even larger than the Icemaulers of the North, and it would be more than a match for a Bronze wher, if he were a wild, and if he were alone. The three of you work together, and between the stabbing weapons and the wher's claws it's far too much. You are unscathed, while your partners suffer only the mildest of scratches from the beast. You at least have a prize to take back to show--and terrify--the rest of your contingent. Even if it won't be worth anything seeing as it's been stabbed and all.

-

Raining / Raistlin

You start at the river in the Northwestern most corner of your quadrant. It's just a tiny sliver, but until you make it Southwest it's the last of the sky you're going to see. But hey, you're two Wherpairs so who even needs light. Bonus points because your map, it's going to be amazing. A big dark blob of "many, many trees" and then something of a clearing somewhere near the bottom. It'll all come together for the big picture, but for now? You just gotta make it work. Otherwise, it's all fairly uneventful. You're probably ready to have a nice romantic evening out under the canopy and try to catch a glimpse of a few sneaky stars. That is until you start scratching.

user posted image
Your skin begins to itch and blister

Luckily, whatever seemed to get to you, it doesn't look like it got to Nevitheran. And while you might be trying to scrape yourself against the nearest tree for a few candlemarks, it all seems to pass quickly after that. Maybe a fluke?

-

Sakoru / B'tor

While your area is completely forested, the vast majority is not true jungle. The starlight filters through all the breaks in leaves and tree alike and makes for a very picturesque journey through this odd Southern basin. You spend the night trying to capture every scene into your mind to share with anyone who will listen later. Maybe you're waiting for adventure! Yearning for it. You think you hear another team somewhere in the West during the night. Were they saying something about rashes? Oh, no matter, that's no concern to you! Luckily you're so observant, because you start to realize these trees have a particular green growth on them. Maybe you even give it a taste? Even if not, you bet someone else will.

Ruoban & Ruosk (w/ Norla & Norsk @Ivy)
Wher/Wher; Square 20

It wasn't everyday one had the chance to explore uncharted territory, especially not on behalf of Pern's newest Weyr. Ruoban had been ready to volunteer as soon as the word had gotten out, though he remembered to ask for Ruosk's thoughts on the subject first before immediately saying yes. The cyan wher had pondered the pros and cons for quite some time as she was not the type to just jump into things. At last, she had parted her lips to reveal a bright smile. 'Yes. Will be nice change.' The pridesecond had squeezed her into a tight hug to show his thanks before running off to get their affairs in order. After all, the best way to avert disaster was by preparing for the worst but still hoping for the best.

Of course Ruoban couldn't have planned for everything and he had no idea that he was going to be paired with the Alphahandler. "Hmm, guess I'm going to have to be on my best behavior with you around," he joked to Norla. "Please don't be too harsh on me, Alpha." He finished his breezy words with a not-so-subtle wink though his intentions remained pure. The bronzehandler would find him to be a cheerful companion throughout their journey into the unknown. Ruosk, on the other hand, was a little more reserved as thoughts of future possibilities were never far from her mind. 'There be no such thing as clear path-way,' she advised. 'Re-member.' Still, her eyes gleamed with excitement as she looked to Norsk. This was going to be quite the adventure!

Norla and bronze Norsk joining Ruoban and Ruosk {@Leo}

Go, pro-tect Weyr and people. Have help, Nor-la best for help. Norsk too.

With that Norla’s protests fell silent, though she had plenty in mind. While not the exact same as the isle she called home for so many turns - not by a long shot - she still felt uneasy about being in the jungles facing the unknown. At least they would not be completely alone as they moved through the tall grasses and trees, another wherhandler pair joined them. Ruoban and Ruosk, she recognized them as soon as they approached where she and her bronze were waiting. Leaving the base camp together she rolled her eyes and offered a partial grin at his jovial nature, ”I came specifically so I could keep an eye on you, I’ve heard you’re a troublemaker.” Of course she had heard no such thing about the pridesecond, if anything Vessa had gushed about what a great help he had been in Epsilon. Lightheartedness was appreciated, as long as he could also be serious and keep an eye out for dangers. ”Are you here simply to try and one up your prideleader? I hear her last expedition she found a queen wher egg that hatched out our betahandler’s wher. Hoping you’ll find a whole clutch to tote back to Dalibor?”

Norsk nodded politely to the cyan before setting forth ahead of them, careful not to leave them behind but also making sure there were no dangers ahead. It was his job to protect and take care of others; a job he took very seriously.

Leo / Ruoban

It's an unassuming trip. Most of your area is not true jungle, not yet. It's all new growth. Perhaps a few hundred turns old, no more. The canopy hasn't fully closed in and the stars twinkle down on you as you plot the map for the bigger picture. You probably would have left empty handed, if you hadn't rustled that bush just right. As it is, it seems like the little creature you shook out, while odd-looking, would rather stick with you than fight off giant snakes.
