Upcoming Hatchings:

Western Hold welcomes new blood in the form of a young couple, Lord Holder Basasius and Lady Holder Baria. A grand Gather is being hosted by Western Hold to welcome their new Lord and Lady.

While the new Lords settle into Western there has been talk and speculation about the western continent's other Hold. It has been two turns since his wife's passing in the south, when will Lord Callum decide to take up a new wife?

Spring has woken an abundance of plant life across Pern with intermittent spring showers helping to sate the growth's never ending thirst. With the end of snow and cold comes Thread once more; Dalibor's wings have no doubt been reduced due to losses over the winter but none the less they persevere.

L'igi and green Jasmith teamed up with Pauline and black Caveth {@Ivy}
Dragon/Dragon Square 33

"Isn't this exciting? sent Jasmith to both L'igi and her clutchbrother, Caveth, flying to the right of the green and Hers, "It's so nice to get out of that stuffy old weyr and see new things, isn't it?" Mounted on her back, wind whipping what hair peeked out from beneath his flight cap, L'igi didn't say anything... honestly, while he certainly appreciated doing his part to help, especially when doing so would help him gain a better reputation in his new home, he also wasn't a huge fan of flying pell-mell into possible danger, and he could already feel the strange way the winds in this area were tugging him and Jasmith to and fro. "Just watch these crosswinds, they might throw you off, and I don't feel like taking a bath," he replied both out loud and mentally, to make sure the green could hear him even if the odd winds ripped his words away.

Turning, he gave a smile that was more confident than he felt in Pauline's direction... he was quite happy to have his former weyrling friend close once more, even if she did cause some odd feelings in his chest when he was around her sometimes... odd, but pleasant. "See anything out of the ordinary yet?" he yelled in her direction, wondering if her eyes were sharper than his... he had seen nothing but jungle coastline and thrashing waves so far.

Pauline and black Caveth joining L'igi and green Jasmith
@Aftershock

IT IS PLEASANT. I LOOK FORWARD TO MORE TREASURES. Caveth's booming voice sounded out for both riders and his green clutchsister. Of those who hatched with him he seemed to have taken a shining to Jasmith in particular - one of the reasons he did not fret when Pauline suggested they uproot from Igen to the Weyr in the west. Now they were in the south, though he was unphased. There may be treasures to be found, if so he would have them all to himself. Their weyr back at Dalibor had room aplenty for his treasure hoard to grow after all.

Squinting through her goggles, she knew she should have cleaned them better before leaving Grove, she waved towards the greenrider and grinned. Having a familiar face around Dalibor was nice and they had never been called upon to do things like this back at Igen. She peered down at the choppy waters to see if she noted anything worth mentioning when they landed later, this was about discovery and filling out a map - she couldn't help with that if she didn't put forth some effort into memorizing the landscape... or lack thereof.

Aftershock / L'igi

You take out over the open water and into the great unknown. Well, you know it's water so it isn't that unknown, but it's just unknown enough to cause you some safety concerns. It isn't like you didn't hear about a few dragons getting their wings near snapped off earlier, and...did you just see some dragons collide to the West before blinking out of existence? I guess since no one is keening it's okay. And..oh...look at that down below. It seems like a great pod of a hundred silver-sided fish leaping into the air as they cavort across the sea. Time to catch them and eat them.

NPC Janora
Dragon/Wher
Square: 17

Their last expedition had seen them in what felt like the heart of the jungle. The clearing had proven breathtaking, filled with these strange flowers... Janora had taken one back for observation. The picked flower had resided in her hair for a time, as a clear showpiece. They had made progress, even if said progress was coming slowly. Given the injuries others had sustained on their first-go, they had been lucky to come out of the jungle with their lives. Janora was about risks. There were parts of Pern that had yet to be cultivated, and so she wanted to be one of the first to suggest cultivation in a new land. One day the sheer number of dragons, and people, would require more land. Grove Weyr was but one settlement, and the jungle was proof of what could be. As much as the nature appealed to her, so did survival. The jungle may very well prove to be viable land for a new Hold or, depending on what was on the other side, Weyr. She was determined to be one of the people that got to the other side. She was smart to be wary of what dangers lie ahead; Falkreath wasn't about to let her forget that she was far from immortal. Even so, stepping out onto new land, like she had the other day, had been... breathtaking.

She would approach today with a new attitude, and fresh eyes. She had gotten her rest, and both Yendev and Yensk were ready to go once more. So, onward they traveled. Again the jungle proved dense, the gnarled vines blocking various paths. It would have to be cut through, and so cut through they would. Yensk, bold wher that he was, decided to lead the way. Janora had little objection to their eyes and ears taking up residence at the head of the group. However, she was not nearly naive enough to think that danger couldn't approach from all sides. So, she too kept watch. Yendev, despite his age, was a helpful traveling companion. His turns of knowledge, archiving, and map-reading, had decided today's route. The man had spent turns upon turns of his life traveling Pern. In fact, he was practically a walking scroll himself. He was bent on announcing himself as being in "the best shape of his life." At this she could only smirk to herself, and say very little in reply.

Falkreath, having woken up on the wrong side of the dragon couch, was being a grump. He, again, didn't like that he was being "left behind." He wanted to venture into the jungle, despite his size. So, rather than accompany them into the tangle of vines, the burgundy favored sarcasm. Janora merely sighed, having little patience for his sass. He would just have to suck it up.

"We'll make good headway today, Janora," Yendev offered encouragingly. The man was outfitted with a walking-stick, an item that Janora refused to comment on. "Certainly," she half-muttered, huffing a breath as she pushed through foliage. Her eye was on the prize, whatever that prize may be. It mattered to her that she was the one to find whatever treasure may have been out here. She had an opportunity, one that she wasn't about to waste. Even Falkreath could appreciate his riders determination.

S'vor & ??? (Captain's choice)
Dragon/Dragon
Square - 34

The prior day's events might have been enough to dissuade someone else from attempting to take on the vast expanse of open water, yet S'vor was never the sort to give up easily, even if there was some danger. He would be wary, knowing that the powerful winds might beat an unwary dragon down into the waves of the sea. He'd managed to acquire another partner to come along with him this time. A brave soul who, also knowing the risks, had the same spirit of adventure they did, and would take a chance to discover whatever they might.

Absinth was better prepared this time. She had managed last time to use her agility and smaller size to avoid the powerful winds that threatened to beat her down towards the sea. This time she focused on updrafts, saving her strength and simply riding them when she could, hardly flapping them unless she needed to.

'Good job, darling. Keep it up and we'll have this whole area scoured in no time at all.'

So you say. These winds are strong. I am being as careful as I may, yet it is not a simple matter of avoidance. They change unexpectedly over the water.

The green sent to their traveling companion's dragon,

Do not lose focus. Mine believes we can map this area if we are wary, yet with the unpredictability of the winds... her words trailed off, but the meaning was clear. After what had happened to T'garn's dragon, it could be them next. She, too, shared S'vor's daring and desire to rise to a challenge. Still, there was a risk here. An unpredictable one. She did not want to fall victim to the winds. She'd press on as best she could, and be careful, but one couldn't predict just how it would go.

Wher/Wher
NPC Amalthea of Green Amalthesk and Barret of Blue Barresk
Square: 16

"I still say we should just follow the river," Barret said, yet again, his arms crossed over his chest. Amalthea turned her pale purple eyes on him and smiled the same sweet smile that had made him fall for her all those turns ago.

"Another pair went that way this morning," she reminded him. "We don't want to step on someone's toes. Besides, because of their eyes we aren't exactly getting the first pick." Her points were valid, they both knew it. Barret sighed and gave her a resigned grin. Jeez, he was just wrapped around her finger, wasn't he? He shook his head and took the hand she extended to him.

"You know this whole indulging you thing ends when the mapping's done," he told her. She just laughed and tugged, pulling him deeper into the jungle. Their whers trod along beside their person, Barresk alert for anything. "You should be more careful though," Barret said. "Remember the giant snake, and the feline? Those were both bigger than anything we saw around Southern." That made Amalthea slow down a little. He immediately felt sorry for how he'd said it, he hadn't meant to scare her. He squeezed her hand. "Hey, just go slow, and we should be fine."

Amalthesk pay attention,Barresk said to the Green. Listen for big-feline-sound or big-snake-sound. Not know what jungle-forest is hiding.

Amalthesk be careful, the Green responded, her carefree voice contradicting her words. But, like her mate, she too was alert for any sound. Not just from giant beasts that might be after them, but for small things that might be trying to get away. They didn't want to accidentally step on anything that might have an angry bite, after all.

NPC Wynnifrid of Green Wynnifrisk
Dragon/Wher
Square: 9

Ahh… Um. Why-Wynni Wynnifrisk not like this idea much. Um… Maybe better if stay at camp? The reedy, thin voice of her wher interrupted the older woman’s thoughts as she looked out at the jungle. They had taken the spot of a younger handler after she had been attacked by a snake of an alarming size. Hm. Seems some people didn’t have the adventerous spirit. Wynnifrid, on the other hand, did. Despite her old age. Fingers snapped slightly to grab F’ox’s attention.
“Follow me.” She stated simply.

Oh my heart, this is for the betterment of everyone. Aren’t you excited to see what we find? Plus remember, I’m here. She did her best to reassure the lithe green, who took to poking her long slender snout beneath bushes and vines. Still the green stuck to her side. F’ox, who was displeased at being summoned like one might a canine, stomped over in a huff.

“Wynnifrid I’m not -”
“Shhhh, lower your voice. Unless you want another encounter like yesterday’s?” A smile played on her lips as she looked over the young rider. Ah riders. So many of them were hotheads. But she had enough turns under her belt to know how to deal with them. Using their beltknifes to help clear the way, the trio wandered through the jungle. Ever vigilant, Wynnifrid would pause to listen, tilting her head thisway and that, searching for sounds that were new to them. Wynnifrisk did much of the same. The leggy green occasionally pausing and going stone-still at the slightest ruffle of leaves.

F’ox just sighed. Shouldn’t these two be back at base camp? He had been nervous when Wynnifrid asked to join him after Rozen’s departure, and he was even more concerned now. Still, the green handler and her wher were thorough, poking around, looking for new resources of items of interest.

C'ian and S'idon 44 dragon/dragon

Another adventure? Of course C'ian was there. He had buddies up with a younger male rider for this trip. S'idon or something. Whatever, C'ian was stoked to be out exploring again. Maybe they would even find more people out here. As soon as they were ready, they set off. The warmth here was so much better than the freezing cold of Dalibor at the moment. Perhaps he might even retire here one day when Shirath was too tired to lift himself off the ground.

He soared over the trees, looking for some sign of people, hoping that he might be able to make friends with those that were here. Hey, maybe he could tell them stories. Well, it was a plan he would absolutely enact if he did happen to come across anyone. The pink they flew with was a delight, whooping and engaging Shirath's antics with nothing less than extreme enthusiasm.

Although she informed them that anything pretty and shiny should be hers so she could add it to her weyr. Shirath had managed to talk her into perhaps splitting any bounty they acquired.

Zane / Janora

You're in the thick of it now. The only break in the canopy above you comes from the river that slices your territory neatly in half. You wind your way up and down the riverbank looking for something as beautiful as the other night, yet you probably see it in everything as you explore. The jungle comes alive in the darkness. Insects without names glow above your head, the sound of animals can be heard in the distance and you have no name for them either. Then a glow catches your attention. Is it possible you've found more of those flowers? You move closer and the glow coalesces into two burning eyes -FWAP- the eyes lunge at you and strike! Teeth burrow into flesh and you find yourself consumed by silky smooth and chillingly cool coils.

Something slithers out of the darkness, it sounds like death

The beast begins to squeeze the life out of you, its jaw unhinging to release your shoulder as it prepares to dine. A long tongue reaches out and slaps across your cheek, it almost seems dry as it extends from a gaping hole inches from your face. Crush, crush, crushing it works its jaw slowly over the crown of your head and then--it slumps. The pressure is gone from your body, but not the weight. It seems locked in place around you as its glowing eyes fade to darkness all thanks to the knife your partner plunged into the base of its skull. You're awake for little else.

They damn near need to cut the forest down to move you, and are forced to cut the body of the snake away so twisted with your own it has become. By the time you arrive at the Weyr your're running a low grade fever, and some of the Healers may notice swollen lumps under your armpits and underneath your jaw. As time progresses your fever deepens and your lungs begin to fill with fluid, the Healers begin to doubt if you will survive.

+20 Hours added to cooldown: Janora permanently out of the Expedition without IC Healer intervention

-

Ruriko / S'vor

Ah the open skies, open ocean--er...lake?--open world! You are back at it again with partner in tow and what a beautiful da--oh dear.

user posted image
A sudden gust of wind is at your dragon's back, it pushes you down relentlessly to open water

This time, you're ready for it! Mama didn't raise no fool, you weren't just born yesterday. You and your dragon fly down with the surge and duck out just in time to avoid the grasping waves below. Your partner isn't so lucky. The sharp gust pulls back their wingspars so hard it sprains two of them. They'll be down and out for at least a couple hours trying to recover from this lesson.

At least you managed to map your area before being forced back to basecamp early.

-

Summer / Amalthea

The canopy is so thick overhead you aren't even sure if you're seeing stars, or insects. The best source of light aside from the glows you were provisioned, are the eyes of your wher as they dance over the root-strewn and thickly carpeted jungle floor. It smells distinctly of wet and rot, and it makes you wonder what anyone ever sees in this place. Then you find something a little bit lovelier than all the other brown decomposing muck.

This bitter smelling flower, found in pairs, must be interesting to someone
*50 mark resource find*

You take the time to finish your map, and that's when you hear the yelling. The going isn't as easy--you don't know the terrain--but you make it to Zane - Janora just in time to watch her partner frantically trying to free her from an enormous deceased snake.

So, the rumors were true after all.

Being the upstanding Wherhandlers that you are, you set about helping to free and exfiltrate the Dragonrider.

-

Blot / Wynnifrid

Everything seems mostly serene over here. There are still some large gaps in the canopy above you so you can see the starlight twinkling. You're far enough to the West that you don't have to hear someone almost get eaten by a giant snake, and so far--nothing has tried to devour you. However, maybe you will try to devour something instead? You'll have ample opportunity. Growing in your quadrant you find a plethora of odd green...fruit? Yes...they must be fruit, but who will be brave enough to have the first taste?

user posted image
This swollen green fruit only grows in the northwestern forest

-

Boo / C'ian

Your chosen quadrant is very nearly cut in half, one part jungle, one part water, but it's just enough not trees that you were permitted to explore here. You curve around the woody area first because, hey, the water seems kinda boring and it isn't like you can find friends down there. Well, unless they're in the process of drowning you suppose. But you don't find anything in the trees so you're forced to go out there anyway. Oh bother, you don't see so much as a fish or an island, and by the time you feel the pressure change to realize you're about to be yet another pair of dragonriders pitched about by the wind--it's pretty much too late.

Luckily you're both experienced Riders. The worst that happens is Shirath's tailtip uncontrollably smacking S'idon upside the head; it could have been incredibly bad, but it's only the very edge of only one tailtip and it simply gives him the smallest abrasion. All in all, a job well done. Maybe you'll impress the ladies with your war wounds after all.

W’ryn and friend X’ror - 45, Dragon/Dragon

Adventure! W’ryn was nearly bouncing as she adjusted Earth’s flightstraps for what was somewhere between the twentieth and hundredth time. For his part the Blue was his usual stoic self—he sat as far from basecamp as could be considered reasonable, his wings hunched to form his own makeshift tent. W’ryn could feel the rumblings of disapproval beneath the surface, but she wasn’t going to let his pessimism influence her decision to participate. The others had already found so many exciting things! Even the Beastcrafters were expecting something exciting—the Bluerider wouldn’t have missed being part of that for the world.

“Up we get,” she finally called out, scrambling up the electric hide of her friend. With a stirring of leaves they were airborne. A smaller, lighter dragon followed a half-dragon-length behind—a pretty creature, with over-large wings and a tendency to talk to herself. X’ror had little need to be the lead on such an expedition. He had had quite enough of adventure for a while, only a desire to serve his Weyr like any good rider ought.

(E’do/Vessa; dragon/wher; Square 3) @Ivy

It was the allure of adventure that drew Wingsecond E’do out to explore this jungle. He was a young man, after all, and still in the mood to go see places on this planet that he’d never seen before. So why not? He’d survived the exploration to the Norther Wastes turns ago alright; here wasn’t any more dangerous than there, in a way.

Just keep on his toes, and not get complacent, and the Viridianrider should be fine. Listen to those who lived out here and knew how to survive in a jungle, take the supplies they said were necessary, and his odds in his favor became better. And take a look at the remains of two very large ‘snakes that were killed by other explorers, and that very large - and dead - feline a third party ran into, and be prepared mentally for facing those things down too. Piece of cake. Maybe.

E’do waited for his friend Vessa to show up before making his final decision on where to explore. “You want to try one of the areas here along the edge first? Get a feel for what jungles are like before entering the areas that those ‘snakes and felines were found?”

He had thought about flying with Alfonth over the huge lake there, but the tales of winds strong enough to bat around a Bronze like a feather had the young man reconsidering that idea. Alfonth would grump more than usual if his wings were injured. And drive the Healers nuts if he lost his hand like that one poor Pinkrider did, trying to get E’do help.

That the dragon would do the same thing if his rider got injured in the jungle was something E’do wasn’t wanting to think about right then.

L'igi and green Jasmith with ride-along Oreanda and bronze Osk {@Ruin}
Dragon/Wher Square 1

Having returned to the expedition base camp safely with Pauline, a massive shoal of silvery fish marked with an anchored buoy for experienced fishers or riders with a net to retrieve, L'igi checked the map, and found that there were already riders assigned to check what unexplored ocean was currently reachable without overextending anyone into unknown territory. Realizing that two riders would be useless in the jungles, L'igi looked around for a wher pair to assist him in his next outing... and found a young, short-haired woman with a massive bronze. It didn't take long for the man to notice something was going on with the woman, considering she never opened her eyes, but he could not deny her after he brought up teaming up, as she was adamant about participating in the expedition, and considering she was considered a valid bronzehandler both by the Weyr and by the very wher she was bonded to, L'igi was unwilling to question so many others who were confident in her abilities... plus, Jasmith would never have let him get away with treating the blind woman differently than someone sighted.

Since she was useless in the thick canopy, and not really designed for ground work, Jasmith flew above the trees, using her connection to her rider to keep tabs on the group on the ground, perfectly willing to take some wing tears diving down through the foliage if something went wrong. Wanting to be thorough, L'igi chose a spot that had somehow been skipped over along the edge of the jungle, walking carefully through the soft, loamy jungle floor with his two companions. Using a thick knife to chop through any vines or foliage too thick or spine-covered to push through, L'igi asked conversationally, "So, how long have you been at Dalibor? I'm a recent transfer, myself, from Igen." He was clearly curious about her eyes, but he figured she was tired of that being the first thing people asked of her all the time, so decided to go with a more neutral question.

Czervon of Blue Czervosk (w/ Der/Desk as ride-alongs!)
Wher/Wher
Square: 27

@Rii

The whersport that had latched onto him last round had an absolutely ridiculous appearance; much to Czervon's chagrin, the creature had been disinclined to leave him alone, and he could only assume it was a baby of some sort because it didn't appear to have any fear of him at all.

That, or perhaps it confused him with a tree, time would only tell.

He'd already heard rumors that another person in the expedition had been almost eaten by some sort of enormous, constrictive snake. He'd worried himself about it considerably, given the bodies coming back that they'd killed of them - probably for the Tanners to make something out of - were near to and some over thirty feet long. Seawhers of the jungle, he suspected. Like them, one didn't see them until it was far too late.

Czervon wasn't usually someone who feared much - it was hard to, as a former pirate. But the prospect of his smaller-bodied whermate or his Gray getting caught by one was concerning. Czervon's hand lingered near his smaller blade at all times, when it wasn't pushing undergrowth they'd hacked out of the way. He did his best to stay away from the gametrails; predators tended to hunt those, and they were hardly prey. No, his intentions were quite plainly to let neither himself nor Der go home in pieces.

He was also concerned about any Holdless who had survived in this environment, and what potential wild whers they might have bonded to. The Palefolk weren't far from his mind, and if they could survive such a place as they had, including the Wastewanderers, then why would the jungle not hold a similar secret? Curious as he was, Czervon considered them lucky to get out of here with their lives and a bit more resources, perhaps some research, where necessary.

As a Fisher, his interests were securely in more of that modicum, and where they found themselves ending up by water he could easily access, he investigated where he was able. It still didn't distract him from their job out here, but all the same where he found time to do so, he sated his curiosities with the shoreline.

Czervon kept a very close eye on Der and Desk. After all, he loved them immensely, and the prospect of something happening to them on his watch was inexcusable. Not today. Not any day.

"It's gettin' thick, love," he remarked quietly, the hint of his former life's accent making an appearance as he was more concerned by the world around him, than keeping it out of his tone. "Stay close."

Der had laughed himself sick.

He'd been teasing Czervon for a solid turn that they would go south and find a new pet. And what was the first notable thing they ran into venturing through the overgrowth? A wee baby whersport that had decided to cling to the bluehandler. Now Der wasn't the type to bust out the big belly laughs, but for that he made an exception.

In the end, he was sure the beastcrafters back at camp would be thrilled to poke and prod at the winged creature. It was only his weyrmate that was less than amused.

He'd heard the rumors too, and seen the massive serpentine bodies that had been dragged back (which must have been a job and a half, he didn't envy the people who'd had that task). So even if he didn't agree with Czervon's paranoia, he had to admit that it was completely justifiable. He didn't fancy tangling with something that could swallow Desk without even trying very hard.

Giant tunnelsnake thing have to try hard-er than VERY hard to swallow Desk, the grey put in direly. She would fight it to the death.

"I wasn't ever not close," he answered wryly. Czervon was doing most of the work as the trailblazer, because he was bigger and knew how much clearance he'd need. Der scrambled over a fallen tree. "Trees are starting to get a bit bigger," he noted. "Just the further in we go." He paused with charcoal and hide to make a note on the rough map they had to draft before returning for the night, then stuffed it back in his pack. "Onwards and upwards."

Dragon/Wher (L'aars of Iron Jaireth/NPC Sadie of Green Sadisk)
Space: 55

The winds were harsh. During L'aars' previous day exploring, he found fish and watched a number of his fellow riders get thrown into the water or forced to escape between by the sharp gusts of wind. He later learned that one pair returned bloody from the event. It was dangerous out in these wilds. Today when he set out, it was with a wherhandler pair. The woman handled what had to be one of the most aggressive Green's he ever met in person. Or maybe it was just enthusiastic. It kept shouting about eatin' and killin' and eatin' dead the scaries in the jungle.

He was thankful than her handler quieted her as they began their explorations. Jaireth flew above, ready to take them back to came should disaster fall upon them. L'aars had his eyes open, on high alert for the many dangers this place promised. Among the plentiful resources brought to camp by fellow riders and handlers, carcasses of giant snakes and some breed of big cat were drug in. Other times it was their victims that were.

Tor'n and Teraath + Toumke and Tousk
Dragon/Wher
Square: 28

"Come on Toumke!" Tor'n patted the handler on the back with enthusiasm. "Where should we go? I hear they're finding some terrific things out there." His grin was infectious as he eyed the map of possible places to explore. For him, this was exciting and fun! A chance to see something new that had never been seen before. It was a great break from drills and he itched to get out there over the jungle and see what could be found.

Not so his reluctant partner. Toumke shifted nervously, wondering why in Faranth's name he'd agreed to help with this insane expidition. "Oh yes, terrific things that could get us killed. Great." His sarcasm was thick as he glared at his partner.

Tor'n just laughed and shrugged. "Everything has it's risks. We'll be careful. How about here?" He pointed to an area that looked to be near a river.

Toumke sighed and shrugged. "One doom is as good as any other." he agreed reluctantly.

Vessa and green Vessk - accompanying E’do.

Find new baby. Vessk’s mission was not one of exploration, she cared little for the maps that the rider and Hers were set out to fill in. Rutting around in the dense undergrowth with her nose she was far more excited about the prospect of finding another wher’s abandoned nest - it was a shame she’d never laid a viable clutch since she so badly wished to clutch and have her own hatchlings. Such was life though and instead of laying eggs she could always find eggs and it was all the same in her mind. As much as Nevisk wasn’t the green’s offspring she also was, at least as far as the bright green wher was concerned. Vessa had thought about asking V’ael if he wanted to go into the jungles to the south with her but she wasn’t sure how he’d react to having his dragon in the skies and having to be so close to Vessk. Her… whatever they were calling each other at this junction in their ‘relationship’, if it could be rightfully called that, came from a background where whers were not to be trusted. Would he have trusted Vessk enough in such a dangerous situation that he would have said yes? She wouldn’t know until she asked.

Before it had come up though she’d run into E’do at the base camp and the viridianrider was eager to get going. She’d grabbed a bag, a knife, and some glows and hurried out to meet him on the edge of the massive jungle. Things weren’t too thick here but she could see ahead that they would be. Some had reported back in the past few days that there were giant snakes capable of disabling a man, or woman, and also large felines. Everything was big in the southern jungle, from what she’d heard so far. It wasn’t all bad though, some pretty flowers had returned to the camp and some edible tubers. There had been a lot of flowers actually and she knew the healers were beginning to study them to see what they might be able to turn them into. Waving at the rider as she approached she shifted her bag on her back, ”Lead the way, we’re just here to save your arse.” Smirking at him she nodded, Vessk would take up the back to ensure they weren’t ambushed by something and she unsheathed her blade, just in case.

Raistlin/Raisk, Nevitheran/Nevisk Tag-along (@RhiaBlack)
Square: 15
Wher/Wher

The rash on his arm had gone, whether this was because of their Healer's help (despite unprofessional bedside manner), or it wasn't all that dire. But Raistlin had made sure to be careful, and they brought along gloves for both they and Nevi. Especially since the latter of the two was looking for tints and such, how Raistlin got infected was beyond them.

Since the rash had cleared, Raistlin had no problem going back out again (well.. they would have anyway), there was nothing keeping the redhandler from this. Not even Nev's concern if there was any. They were sure their love wished to continue this trek as well.

Heard other group find large slithering things, Raisk spoke up to the Gold most likely trotting beside her, Think Nevisk handle large poison squeezing slither? Or Raisk be one to save day? It wasn't really a real question, but just a shove into a more interesting conversation. She was happy to be out of those caves and back out wandering.

"I heard there were felines too," they added, "ones that rivaled the icemaulers found up north. It seems everything is bigger, more venomous and all around more dangerous. Will Grove Weyr tame this wild?" Raistlin nudged Nevi, brushing their shoulder to his, "afraid of snakes, dearest?"

Raisk like find large feline, conquer and take hide. Nice decor for home, yes?
Of course, my light.

Oreo & Osk with L'igi

Another day, another...adventure? She and Osk weren't too upset about what had transpired last evening. They'd come out of it relatively unharmed, and it'd been proven without a shadow of a doubt why the Dragonriders needed to be accompanied by a Wherhandler. And that wasn't even the worst that had happened to the teams! She was all smiles as she and Osk started wandering through the territory L'igi had chosen for them. The smells and sounds were so foreign that it nearly set her mind to wandering. She had to pay attention though, lest they be caught unawares.

"Oh I've been there for eight turns now. Osk and I have been together for a little bit over three." She didn't mind the talking, but she was prone to being quiet as they worked. She couldn't see, so she had to hear. Though it was comforting to listen to Jasmith as she flew overhead. They weren't in the worst of it yet, so the dragon could still catch glimpses of them, and Anda had full use of Osk's eyes as well. It all seemed so serene--and that troubled her.

Tobes / W'ryn

Ahh fresh air. You might not be as far away from land as some of the other dragon pairings, but what does it matter? Most of them all nearly died from some horrible wind. Who dies from wind anyway? Besides, as you look to the West it appears that the land is currently covered by huge angry rainclouds. You and your partner seem keen on staying close to the water, at least then the landing won't be so horrible, right? When something does happen to you, it's what you least expect. A giant silver fish leaps out of the water and twacks soundly into the side of your well-protected leather-bound body. Delicious!

Tiger / E'do

Ahh the great outdoors. Or it would have been if you hadn't immediately been dropped off into the deluge of a jungle monsoon. Even out here on the fringes you are getting positively soaked--probably because there aren't as many trees. You do your best to chart your territory even as the hide starts to swell in your hands. Maybe that's why you and your partner are a little late to notice that, in the storm, the ground has come to life.

The forest is full of so many terrors

The insects swarm up your legs nipping and biting as they find their way beneath your trousers. You do the most sane thing possible in that moment. you strip and start squashing everything you see. It totally worked too, you are uninjured! You have survived all that the Jungle has thrown at you, you are--Vessk is screaming at you, and Vessa is clutching at herarms as she slowly sinks down to the ground. Her face, even in the darkness, seems to be turning all sorts of strange colours and you see blotches springing up in sharp detail on exposed skin.

Maybe you should get her back to camp, she definitely will not be returning to this jungle.

-

Aftershock / L'igi

A nice serene little walk where no one else had chosen to go? What could possibly go wrong here? The answer...nothing! Your territory is remarkably quiet--if beautiful--and then the rain starts. Oh and boy does it come down on you hard. Your partner is very sweet and offers you a seat on her enormous wher, which she rides around on for the rest of the night making you look like a soggy fool if you didn't take her up on the offer. Because, frankly, you'll be soon up to your knees in muck and mire. In fact you might even be ready to swear off this whole expedition thing entirely. That is until you spy something tucked away in the crook of a root that the other two haven't noticed.

Rhia / Czervon

It's thick indeed. Your territory is one of the darkest yet on the map. Absolutely no star or moonlight filters down to you, though you can see the silvery outline on the leaves far, far above. The bonus is that, when the monsoon happens, you're not thoroughly drenched. The downside? All that water has to go somewhere, and it begins cascading down through the roots making a big river of dead and decaying foliage that threatens to sweep you off your feet as it travels to the distant river. Needing to hold on to various vines and branches for support--once you've cleared them for giant jungle spikes--is actually good, however. It helps you stumble on to a prize!

-

Cat / L'aars

Your territory has a bit of the giant...ocean...lake...thing in the corner of it, but by the time you get there the visibility is so bad from the monsoon pelting you that, even if you were hoping to find some fish--you can't see them anyway. The rest of your time out here is a real slog. You need to map it, that's your one and only mission--aside from not dying a terrible death--but you can hardly see, and the hide you're drawing on is just as waterlogged as you are. It probably takes you a couple moments to realize there are things floating past you in the general tide of downward flowing water. Right now, they have to look super tasty--even raw.

-

Rowana / Tor'n

Your area is going to be a living nightmare. You realize this soon after landing when you are nearly washed away by the rising churning waters of the river--filled to over bursting by the constant ever-present monsoon rains beating down on you. Sometimes you manage to crawl out of the valley the river has chewed through the jungle up into thicker canopy where the water can't pelt you, but that doesn't keep it from running through your boots and over your knees when you try to climb root systems. Luckily for you, if it wasn't for this need to rise higher and higher than the river, you would't have stumbled onto an abandoned firelizard clutch. Most of the eggs have been eaten, or otherwise stolen, but one remains for you.

Raining / Raistlin

Your territory is patchy, like your gross rash from the other day. Some parts are full open and tree-less, not that there's a dragon to watch over you anyway. Some are thick and shrouded under canopy. All areas are equally awful due to the ceaseless rain battering down on your group. In the open, the water falls like a smith's hammer, exploding into a thousand droplets and coating those next to you over, and over, and over again. Under the true canopy, you have to contend with mini flash floods rushing down over gnarled roots and tangled vines. Slip and you die. Fall and you die. Drink the water and you probably die. Who knows. Maybe you do slip and you don't die and that's how you stumble upon this:

Tile: 29

Round two!

Qivi was just as excited, which was probably getting annoying. The forest was just as green. And thick. And really it was irritating. And not just because of the bugs and the heat. She couldn't even strip out of her gear because they might need to Between!

Biting back a sigh, she moved forward, glancing towards Mut to make sure he was still there - Like he would have gone somewhere. "Anything worth noting? Thus far I'm pretty sure Grove could've done this on their own and just been slow about it... But that would've meant we lost out in the fun, so I'm not complaining!"

Ruoban & Ruosk (w/ Norla & Norsk @Ivy)
Wher/Wher; Square 14

"Oh?" Ruoban's eyebrows raised. He hadn't realized Vessa had been chatting to the Alphahandler about him. What had she been saying? He doubted anything bad, though his curiosity remained. "Nah, I'm mostly here for the sights. Though if we do come across an abandoned clutch you won't hear me complaining about it." So far, the going had been easy. That was fine: he didn't want any trouble. Some people sought out danger head-on because they believed an adventure wasn't an adventure without pain. In Ruoban's case, he was quite content with what they had. Twinkling stars shone brightly above their heads and the sounds of nature were all around them. It was very serene.

"Find anything?" There didn't seem to be anything of interest around and they had already finished plotting their section of the map. Ruosk lifted her muzzle. 'Too many smells.' The cyan handler startled rustling around in the bushes, just to make sure, only to jump back in surprise as something small and colorful attached itself to him. "Oh...hello there little guy." His blue eyes sparkled as the creature chattered back to him and clung tighter to his shoulder. It seemed to be some kind of whersport; a beastcrafter back at camp would no doubt be interested in examining it. "You want to head back with us?" He showed the creature to Norla and Norsk. "Not a wild clutch, but I'm happy."

---

A new day, a new opportunity. Ruoban had left the whersport they had found in safe hands back at camp. It didn't seem to be too fond of its dangerous habitat and the handler didn't blame it. He had heard some pretty awful tales about giant snakes roaming the jungle not to mention a rider had somehow lost her hand. Still, he had faith that everything would turn out a-okay. Being a rider or a handler were not exactly safe occupations so the jungle was just another hazard on the road forward. It helped that they had prepared as best as they could for another journey into the unknown. Perhaps today would be another good day? 'Ruosk keep watch. No bitey-thing surprise Ruosk or Norsk.'

Krysthanine and Emith/N’rik and Onith (@Rowana)
Dragon/Dragon
Tile: 56
-
The woman shifted in her seat, careful not to jostle herself too much. They were over new lands, and the last thing she needed to do was lose her footing and fall into the watery depths that currently sloshed far, far below her. And this was, of course, her first time exploring like this! Krysthanine couldn’t hide the nervously excited grin that plastered itself across her face. She had missed previous Dalibor excursions due to having been out of the weyr, or otherwise preoccupied with her own things. But as much as she adored the winter, she knew that discovery was infinitely more enjoyable.

Emith flew on carefully. There had been word of heavy gusts causing… issues, to say the least, for previous fliers. So when they had finally gotten around to exploring rather than hoisting supplies to and fro, she encouraged Hers to find another, smaller dragon. They seemed to fare better in these conditions. And she and Hers were well-seasoned; after over twenty Turns of flying and fighting and dancing on the wind, the pair felt that it was only natural they tackle the winds. So, had N’rik allowed her, Krys would have only chatted with him long enough to catch his name before attempting to drag him off to start this particular trip.

Krysthanine turned back to their younger companion, N’rik, to check in. In her excitement, she had pushed Emith to fly ahead. The gray had only complied to avoid potential injury from wayward gales. She raised a hand, a signal of sorts: first she presented a thumbs up, then a thumbs down, then some wiggle of the hand, as if to indicate somewhere between the first two. It would probably not be best for him to respond to her, but she would stare behind long enough in case he did.

Krysthanine, focus. The chide ripped Krys’ attention back to the dragon below her, hand whipping back to the harness. The less you pay attention, the more likely we will have to face disaster. They know how to handle themselves. You, however, seem to have forgotten.

To say that Emith was on edge was an understatement. They didn’t know what they were getting themselves into, and she couldn’t bear the thought of almost losing Hers again. The firelight from so long ago seemed to dance in her facets as she beat her wings once more, pressing further ahead.

Nevitheran (ride-along for Raistlin and Red Raisk)
Wher/Wher

@Raining

Nevitheran had worried and doted over Raistlin's rash-covered skin, pilfering some of the salve and stirring during the times they'd been trying to sleep when his weyrmate had woken him scratching or obviously uncomfortable. From what he could tell, it wasn't transferrable - he hadn't gotten it, even when he'd touched it to apply the salve, so it looked to be an allergic reaction to something his other half had touched.

Two pairs of gloves for both of them had been added to the supply packs, in case one of them got something on it, or otherwise tainted the first pair. Nevitheran had been beside himself with the whole ordeal, though he maintained a striking degree of calm; the only betrayal that he'd been worried sick - and still was - was naturally evident to Raistlin in the way he just didn't leave them alone a single minute. Where the Redhandler went, so too, did his Goldhandler.

Nevisk too big, think, easy to squeeze. Raisk save day. Smaller head, wide jaws. Bite very hard, Raisk is best wher for defense. Out of all wher in Weyr, Nevisk always pick Raisk, need something done right. Know will get done, not cause problem, not hesitate. Not think anyone else better, come on Expedition with. Raisk, Raistlin, and Nevisk King with Nevisk.

"Everything but the one in your pants, my love."

It was uttered almost subtly, as if it was every day conversation he complimented his lover's biological parts. The only betrayal that it had been on purpose, was the way Nev's lips tugged upwards, and Nevisk's maw of razor-sharp teeth exposed in a shared grin. She bumped her serpentine hindquarters along Raisk's own, sliding her whip-like tail along the Red's before she brushed her body against her man's. Nev lifted a hand to scratch lightly along her neck, and against the nearest of her shoulders.

He would never get used to the fact his wher was as tall as he was. That was at the shoulder, standing. When she sat, her head went over his own. If anything was going to mess with her, it would rue the day for certain.

Nev peered up when the deluge began, the gentle pattering on the leaves curious and luring, but Nevisk was wild-laid. Whers also had innate instincts, he'd found, and when she started for higher ground, he caught Raistlin's beltline and gently drew his lover against him.

"I suspect we should find something higher up, my darling," he offered, just as the whisper of a coming run of water started uphill.

Nevisk picked her way along, using her tail to test the ground in front of them before she broke off several sticks they could use for walking with, and passed one to Hers, and the other to Raistlin. The idea crossed his mind to tie them to himself, in case one fell, the other could hold them to recover.

"I believe when this is over, I'm not leaving the Weyr short of going to the harbor with you for a month." Not to mention what he was going to be doing for that month with his beloved....

N’rik and Onith tagging along with Krys and Emith
@Aika

N’rik was only too happy to join Krys on this expedition for today. Her didn’t know her that well, but he was only to eager to get out there and see what the could find. Some people had found whersports, or weird plants, or snakes! The snakes seemed so cool, even if the were also scary. Of course, they probably wouldn’t see any snakes from up here. Still, the strong winds brought their own challenge and thrill.

He and Onith followed behind Krys and Emith easily enough. N’rik grinned and waved as she signaled to show he would follow her lead. She was the older rider after all and if she was excited to be out here, she was ok in his mind. Onith was maybe a little less cautious in his flight but a few close calls soon had the young pair minding the wind more carefully. Now it was just a matter of seeing what the could find out here in the wild!
