Winter is in full swing as the Northwest reaches the middle stages of the cold month, and Dalibor, taking full advantage of a crackdust filled break in Threadfall, is back at it again. Delving into the Southern ice and snow, they have paired with Grove Weyr to fully explore the lands they only slightly uncovered the previous turn during the Jungle Expedition. This, however, will not be a warm and relaxing waltz through the woods; although was it ever that to begin with?

Embry is incredibly adaptable, fitting himself into just about anywhere with little trouble. He doesn't need much, often surviving off of very little. He's used to change, and therefore always plans for the worst. He's rather pessimistic, feeling as if the entire world is against him.

There is very little that the young man fears. Even in situations where it would be smartest to show fear, Embry is hard-pressed to do so. He has a fairly "come what may" attitude. He's his own worst enemy, for he criticizes himself more often than not, and tends to beat himself up over just about every decision he makes. He has very little confidence in his skills, or, as far as he's concerned, lack thereof. He isn't sure where his place is in the world; too afraid to find out that he doesn't belong anywhere. He questions his existence on a frequent basis.

With little motivation to further his life down a beneficial path, Embry needs lots of encouragement. He's not exactly the most pleasant of people to associate with, often very critical, with little concern as to how his words may affect others. He's not precisely confrontational, and yet he does enjoy making sarcastic quips when he feels slighted. He's most certainly straightforward, which is a trait that not everyone is bound to appreciate. He's infamous for storming off once he's been beat. He's not much of a fighter; though not for a lack of strength, but more for a fear of killing someone.

Once he develops an interest in someone, romantically or otherwise, he tends to get insanely jealous. His jealousy stems from his own insecurities, and so there's no convincing him once he's got an idea in his head. He tends to have an overactive imagination, and therefore has the habit of thinking people are judging him, or attacking him, when nothing is happening. Said overactive imagination tends to present itself in the face of his jealousy. He avoids people after making a fool out of himself, often hiding away so that he can pout all by his lonesome.

While he can be insensitive where other people are concerned, when he really cares for someone, he'll make an awkward effort. Said effort is generally fruitless, and winds up with the young man experiencing immense frustration. Whether or not Embry is truly self-centred remains to be seen, though the present consensus is that he's a rather selfish individual.

Standing at an average height of 5'9", Embry considers himself to be unforgivably short. His head of dark brown hair is often cropped short, or positioned into a faux-hawk. His blue eyes are piercing, and somewhat unnerving. His pallid skin is ghostly, which, given his shady movements, may be fitting. His lean face is coupled with a strong jaw. There is a splattering of freckles across his cheeks and nose, and a cleft set into his rounded chin. He has a permanent stone cold glare that has threatened, on many an occasion, to tear people apart. His smirk is always mischievous, and tends to present itself before he's set to cause trouble.

He's got a fit, lean, form; well-muscled from strenuous labor. He tends to wear darker shades, blacks and navy's. He can occasionally be found in lighter greys and whites when the weather warms up. He tends to dress modestly, not one of those guys that likes to flaunt their bare chest in public. It can be said that he's just a wee bit insecure.

The ice howler is, first and foremost, mothering. She is the caretaker, and Embry is practically her pup, what with how heavily she guards over her boy. She is a gentle soul, but her softness should not be mistaken for an inability to display fierceness. If Embry is in-trouble, she will attack-no questions asked. While typically friendly, she has her limits. She will reprimand like a true mother would, and that includes putting others in their place. Out of all of Embry's pets, she is the most likely to lead. She tends to assess a situation on her own, and then act accordingly.

TW: abuse & murder

Embry was the product of two young traders, whom, in a fit of rebellion, ran away from their families caravans so that they could remain together. Neither one of the teens knew what they were getting themselves into when they took to the road, and the last thing they expected after their first night spent together, was a child.

With a mother who wanted him, and a father who wasn't ready for the responsibility, Embry faced a lot of resentment in his younger Turns. His father, being the more abrasive-individual that he was, saw fit to announce, time and time again, that they'd be better off without their son. Embry, not having chosen to be born to a couple whom were still kids themselves, had a far from usual upbringing. His mothers insistence kept him out of harms way most times.

Growing up Embry saw a lot of abuse wrought upon his mother, by his fathers hand. By the time he was fourteen Turns old, his mother could bear no more of his fathers violent manner. She had endured mental and physical trauma, and sustained permanent damage. On numerous occasions, when they were alone, she asked her son to ease her suffering. Embry, unsure of how she could ask him to do such a thing, would simply question her, and yet receive no answer.

It wasn't until one night when his father left the caravan to hunt, and Embry was left to tend to his mothers needs, that the boy fully understood the gravity of her despair. The young woman was bruised from his fathers beatings, and her spirit was irrevocably broken. She told him everything, both things he wanted to know, and things that he wished he hadn't been made aware of. She spoke of how his father had always known that Embry was not his, and therefore could never understand why she chose to raise him. It didn't take long for the young woman to divulge his true biological parentage. Overwhelmed by a sense of anger, on behalf of his mother, Embry became much more receptive.

Ashamed of both himself, and of the secret his mother had kept from him-not to mention the nature of the act that had led to his being conceived-Embry found himself wanting to escape. His mother gave him permission to leave her, and told him that she'd understand if he wanted to go. Unable to find the words to express what it was that he felt, the boy instead met his mothers eyes as she, again, like many a night prior, requested that he end her suffering.

Rather than leave, or deny her, before he knew what he was doing, Embry drew his pocket knife and made it so that his mother could be at peace. He spent a few moments afterwords just staring at the body of the only person that he had ever thought, maybe, had come to care about him. Heart pounding, the young man left the caravan, taking nothing at all with him. Where he would go, or what he would escape to, was entirely unknown. He was still just a boy, a mere sixteen Turns.

His travels didn't take him far; just far enough to escape his former life. The last thing he wanted was for his pseudo-father to come looking for him. He was positive that, from an outsider's point of view, he was to blame for his mothers end. The more he thought about it, the sicker he felt. It came to a point where Embry vowed he would never consider his mother, or his past, again. If he was ever to survive out in the world, then he would have to forge a separate life for himself...

Such a way of thinking led Embry to performing menial labour in an effort to earn some marks. Once he'd earned himself enough, he had in mind to, possibly, settle down somewhere. He realized that, with his lack of know-how, and his age, he was virtually useless to the majority of crafters. If he were to become an apprentice, he would have to wait until he'd reached his thirties before attaining Journeyman status. The last thing he wanted was to stick out like a sore thumb amongst a group of younger apprentices. No, labour was fine by him as long as it got him by.

Crescent Hold was where the young man wound up; going where the work took him. It was there that he overheard further talk of Dalibor, and it's exotic mutations. As a Trader, he had come to hear of the Weyr prior, though he had never, himself, travelled there. The speculation had never peaked his interest enough for any information about the place to stick. It was only when he was Searched by a dragonrider passing through the Hold that his attentions shifted to Dalibor Weyr. The idea of becoming something more, much more quickly, was appealing. As much as he disapproved of the idea of being stuck in a potential sea of people, all vying for the same thing, he decided it was better than cleaning up runner dung and chopping up firewood.

What his life has been like up until the point of his coming to Dalibor Weyr he's unlikely to ever speak of. Now, when the decisions he makes matter most, all the young man desires is redemption. He can't see himself ever being a team-player, or even the type of individual who is trusting of his fellow candidates. Despite, he is willing to stick out candidacy if only to attain himself a respected position among the people he feels alienated from. Having spent two Turns entirely on his own, it goes without say that the boy is lonely.

Highly active and absolutely fearless, Eocuth can actually be quite sweet when she’s occupied and having fun. Fun can take many forms - fighting Thread is a challenge she just can’t pass up, running, flying, swimming, competitions or games with others, puzzles or riddles are completely acceptable too. Give her something to do, something to be accomplished or to take up her time, and she is pleased.

Nothing displeases Eocuth faster than being bored. She needs challenges and entertainment on the level of needing food and water. Failing having adequate occupation, Eocuth turns people into playthings just as much as objects and thinks nothing of bowling someone over to see how far they slide or roll, or nipping/biting to make them react. Destructive and mischievous, she likes to break things more than make things, and it’s best to provide her with something sturdy that can stand up to a dragon chewing or mauling it to get that out of her system.

Eocuth gets absolutely outraged if her playtime is checked without giving some kind of acceptable replacement. Just making her stop is not acceptable and she will lash out to express her displeasure, taking a certain amount of entertainment and satisfaction in how people respond to her anger. She occasionally voices this in hisses and growls, but usually, it’s shrieks. Likewise if she finds you boring, woe betide you, because you will become the object of her ire - an ire that must be kept leashed, or someone may get hurt.


Eocuth will never win any prizes for stealth - her hide is predominantly a bright, burning red that stands out against anything. She has patches over her eyes, on her body and wings, and down her tail of a darker red, like dried blood; her feet and the end of her tail are the same dark red shade. Though her legs and tail are relatively short and thin, this doesn't carry through to the rest of her body. Eocuth's neck is thicker to support a large head, and her body is likewise more of a sturdy barrel, with proportionate wings.

Why Em'ry:

Em'ry has been developing slowly, but I suspect that without continued reason to work on empathy and responsibility, he'll plateau. Eocuth will be a continuous challenge to him, because she needs to be engaged - and because she needs someone who's ready and able to rein her in when her temper is roused.
