Winter, 18th Turn, 11th Pass

Upcoming Flights/Runs:
Red Ingoth

Upcoming Hatchings:

Winter is in full swing as the Northwest reaches the middle stages of the cold month, and Dalibor, taking full advantage of a crackdust filled break in Threadfall, is back at it again. Delving into the Southern ice and snow, they have paired with Grove Weyr to fully explore the lands they only slightly uncovered the previous turn during the Jungle Expedition. This, however, will not be a warm and relaxing waltz through the woods; although was it ever that to begin with?

Daxaeon (D'eon)
18 turns.
Dalibor Weyr

Dax is a very typical 'man's man'. He used to be quite a flirt and love hitting on girls, though that tapered down after he fell in love with Hallae, proving he is capable of committing to the right girl. He enjoys working with his hands, and hunting with his father, and even learning and practicing knife and hand to hand with his father. He likes wine, and used to like being fairly social and hanging out with other young men his age. He is now a lot more somber after Hallae's death. He was always fairly serious, to a degree, with a dryer, sarcastic sense of humor. Now that is amplified, and doesn't joke as often. He can't quite stop being a flirt altogether, but it, too, is less often. He is trying to find who he used to be before the girl he loved died.

He has a lot of guts, and isn't afraid to get his hands dirty--or defend himself however he deems necessary, should it arise. He isn't about to get involved in business that isn't his own, for the most part. He doesn't exactly stay out of trouble, but he hates to have to get involved in things that don't concern him. Yet if it involves himself or someone or something important to him, he's very persistent and stubborn about getting it taken care of, or done. He used to have a 'hero complex', which has never completely faded. Damsel in distress? He can't help but offer aid in that kind of situation. When it comes to women, it is a tricky thing. The boy he was would flirt outrageously, and lay on the charm quite thick. He could be quite lug-headed and even a little bit misogynistic to a lesser degree, when it comes to women. He has a lot of respect for, them, but definitely feels they need protecting and that men are naturally stronger and should, as the gentlemen they are, treat a woman 'the way she's meant to be treated'. Old fashioned, one might say. He believes they are capable...just not as, at certain things. It is derived more of ignorance and upbringing than being an ass, as it were.

As for ego and pride, Dax has both. He hates to lose, and hates to give up. He thinks he's a handsome fellow--and he doesn't exactly suffer in the physical appearance department--and it shows in the way he carries himself and speaks. He has a bit of a temper, but nothing too extreme, unless someone he cares about is in danger or threatened or he is really, really pissed off. He holds a bit of a grudge, depending on what the situation is. He hates to be wrong, as well. He's terrible at apologies--very awkward. Yet he's not so hard-headed that he won't make them when he's been proven wrong. In some senses, he can be a bit of a meat-head. He's certainly got intelligence, but sometimes misses the mark on things and realizes only after it has been pointed out. Perhaps it can best be described as a 'brain fart'. Still, it happens and it causes some amount of embarrassment for him.

Dax isn't precisely homophobic like his father. Yet he is definitely unsure and uncomfortable when a man who isn't straight is around and shows any interest. He's afraid he'll bit flirted with or hit on--something that has definitely happened before--and the idea of sleeping with a man seems downright unnatural to him. He doesn't have anything against them--he'll tell anyone that, too. He just wants to be left alone for anything other than friendship-type behavior. Even then, his ego leads him to worry it will end up them wanting more. It has caused him no end of embarrassing, uncomfortable situations where he ends up feeling awkward and out of his comfort zone.

Play-by: Jensen Ackles

Dax stands at 6'1", all of it kept in tip-top shape. He takes a lot of pride in keeping himself fit, since the ladies seem to like it. His hair is a lighter shade of brown. It might be near enough dirty blonde at times to be called such. He keeps it fairly short, and it tends to look like it spikes up at bit at the front. Hazel eyes rest above a strong nose and fairly full lips and strong cheekbones. His jawline is also quite cut, with a slight dimple on the chin. He also has dimples at the corners of his mouth when he smiles--something he takes full advantage of when flirting, since he knows his own attributes well! They can also be seen when he is brooding or particularly serious. He tends to be clean shaven, though on rough days he might let it go a day or two.

Brown, black, grey and blue are his colors. He dresses more for practicality than anything, as he doesn't feel he needs to impress anyone and he tends to choose clothes that suit him well regardless. He tends to wear a single chain or suiting necklace most of the time.

D'ar (greenrider, 46, father)
Karaeon (bluerider, 47, mother)
Kaizre (dragon candidate, 16, brother)
Hallae (beloved, deceased at 18 turns)

Daxaeon was born in the winter at Benden Weyr, a product of flight lust. His father, a greenrider, was straight as an arrow and detested the fact that his dragon was flown by the dragons of mostly male riders. In truth he was homophobic, and it drove him over the deep end the first time he woke up beside a man. He was born and raised in a Bitra Hold by hide-bound parents, where such things were frowned upon. So from then on, he made sure to have a willing flight moth woman at the ready for whenever his Prydath rose. Yet, there weren't always men riders who won. Such was the case with Karaeon, whose blue Dikanth caught his green, resulting, in the end, in Daxaeon's birth.

A weyrbrat like so many others, he was an easy going kid who was fortunate that his father had a keen interest in him. His mother had less of one, but he still got to see her more often than some did. His father was quite adamant about his feelings on homosexuality between both men and women, and a lot of this rubbed off on his son. Karaeon had another child two turns later when, ironically, it was Dikanth who caught D'ar's green once more. This would be Dax's younger brother, Kaizre. The two boys were never really close growing up despite how close they were in age, but as brothers did associate and hang around one another from time to time. Dax got on well with his peers and like most of the weyrbrats hoped to be a dragonrider someday. He never really had an interest in much else, even if he was good with his hands.

While he was still a candidate, Dax fell in love with a pretty apprentice Harper at only fifteen turns of age. Her name was Hallae, and she ended up Impressed to a green herself at sixteen, Kyranth. He didn't care that she was already a rider, nor that he was a candidate. They might not have been able to do anything, precisely, yet they were in love, and spent as much time together as they could. Dax swore that once he Impressed and graduated, or aged out, they'd spend the rest of their lives together--as untraditional as it was in a Weyr. She agreed. Only it was never to be.

During a wing drill, there was an accident. Hallae and Kyranth came out of 'between' in the wrong spot, in front of a brown who had just let loose a jet of flame. Badly burned, Hallae didn't make it. Dax was devastated. He became morose and lost interest in everything. He used to be more sociable and easy going, whereas he became rather morose and sarcastic, as well as depressed. He didn't even attend the last hatching at Benden, so his father had a serious discussion with him following. It was decided Dax needed a change of pace and scenery. So, Dax asked for a transfer to the smallest possible Weyr: Dalibor. There he'd continue to Stand and be a candidate until he ages out or Impresses. Whether or not he transfers to Benden following graduation remains to be seen.

Name: Bicorth
Age: 0 turns - AU:18
Color: Black
Hex: #00031b
Size: 20'
Clutch: Laanasuth x Alwanath

Spoiler (Show/Hide)

Bicorth needs a challenge to his head more than to his body. He is ferociously clever, although he doesn’t feel the need to crow it over others. He loves puzzles, riddles, and other logic problems and will happily try to understand human concepts and engineering where other dragons usually don’t feel the need to. He may attempt to mimic sounds - like human words - although his success will likely be limited because dragon throats and mouths are just not made to talk. Oh well. At least he tries. It’s something of a game to him, and he needs that kind of game, or else why bother get up in the morning?

He often comes across as lazy, but this isn’t exactly accurate. He has a philosophy of ‘work smarter, not harder’, and if there’s a way to take a shortcut and trim out some of the drudge work and get similar results, it’s difficult to keep him from taking it. He hates it when things get too repetitive and will get restless and cranky if there’s not at least a little variation from day to day, or drill to drill. If you’re not engaging his mind? Well, he’s out. Good luck, have fun.

It is this unwillingness to trudge along bored and unchallenged, coupled with a quiet stubbornness, that gives him that reputation for being lazy and uncooperative. He lacks the discipline to keep himself in line, but will yield to external pressure as long as his respect is earned first. And if you want to keep him engaged and active, be ready to make it a challenge. Give him the task of working over some puzzle or problem while doing something dull, and both will get done in good time. Give him a worthwhile goal, and he will be happy to grapple with whatever roadblocks there might be.

Bicorth has a small head and relatively short neck, attached to a lithe body and slender limbs; while his length is above average for a black, his size isn't exactly imposing. His wings are perfectly proportionate to his body. He has a patch of short spines that starts halfway down his neck and stops just where his wings meet his shoulders. He is a deep black color tinted with just enough dark blue to give his hide a gleam of color. His spines and the very tip of his nose are a dark charcoal grey.

Adult Length:

Why D'eon:

D’eon is driven where Bicorth is less so, which could be a point of conflict initially - but I know that once D’eon figures out the right approach to motivate him, they’ll be a potent team, and he won’t let Bicorth get into bad habits. Meanwhile, Bicorth is smart, stubborn, and ready to help his rider achieve some goals.
